I am using the correct wiring harness (from 996 turbo) that everyone talks about, plug and play, works, high beams work.

Suggestion
This module drives a servo inside each headlight assembly to adjust the beam vertically for better fill when you have the incandescent high beams on.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I recently had an 02 facelift done on my car, I pick it up tomorrow. All brand new factory parts. The shop said they didn't need the control modules and sent them back saving some good $$$, but if they didn't need them then what do they do?
could it be that the litronic control modules actually come with the litronic xeon headlight assemblies so he didn't need the modules individually?
I am using the correct wiring harness (from 996 turbo) that everyone talks about, plug and play, works, high beams work. So does that mean all is good, or could this module be providing something I am missing?
Brian
If you're talking about the Litronic upgrade kit, there is a high-voltage module that is mounted on (really, it is part of) the rear of each headlight assembly. There is a different module that mounts in the trunk area. This module drives a servo inside each headlight assembly to adjust the beam vertically for better fill when you have the incandescent high beams on.
In the factory installation, the extra module is mounted behind the dash on the passenger side and also samples ride height sensors in the LF and LR suspension to provide automatic vertical beam aiming based on vehicle attitude. Looking at the schematics, I see that on ROW cars this module seems to allows dash adjustment (via a potentiometer) of the vertical beam aiming.
So there is a special module not included with the headlights that does the tilting of the lights during high beam actuation? Anyone have the part # or can tell me about this part? Is it optional. I would like the functionality, just trying to understand how this connects into the mix of things.

According to
this
the control unit (w/ mounting hardware) is part number 000 044 900 38.
Do you need it? No, but I think you want it. I just dropped a set of Litronics in my car without connecting the control unit, and they work. But the operation of the high beams isn't as good as it will be when the control unit is connected.
I did the 02+ facelift conversion, so that module would not be the same.
Does anyone know what the module part # is that is needed to "tilt" 02+ style litronic headlights on a facelifted car? Also how does it connect, is there another harness that goes from this module to each light, etc?
Brian
got my own question answered. There is a very technical thread on here explaining the difference between 99-01 Litronics and the 02+ Bi-Xenons.
Basically the 99-01 is a Halogen and Xenon setup where when high beam flash takes place it must tilt up to give proper beam pattern. But with 02+ there is no tilitng for high beam as its a xenon high beam that is always ignited and just a projector that opens to allow it to fire out. The lights can still move for auto level but not for high beam flash.
