Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

How in the heck do I remove the "cassette" holders that are underneath the radio/stereo on our 99' 996's???????? I want to remove 2 spots to move my V1 concealed display in there.
Thanks!!
***** This was my original post...look below for pics...*****
ok...for whomever wants to try this out, you are definitely going to have to "customize a few things to make this happen, but I think it is worth it. The concealed display was mounted underneath the panel where it is now from and it kind of "stuck out"...not my idea of a concealed unit.
I angled it a bit so it can face me more than the passanger, which is what matters I believe and I took it around the block...
This also addressed the "lighting" issue...as when it was very sunny and I had the sunroof open, it would be hard to see the arrows...not anmore. By having it tucked in there good now you can see it MUCH better.
oh...the actual unit is right were the pass. visor is...
If you fold down the visor the V1 cannot be seen...(but it won't work either...) - so when I go shopping or if I leave the car parked, the visor comes down...you can't see if from the outside due to the tint on the visor...
Not sure if you'rereferring to my set-up or not but it's actual quite visible while driving and concealed enough so as not to draw attention when pulled over.
or mine....it is VERY veasible...it used to be much lower by the shifter...so now it is even easier to read...and with the volume cranked up, you must be deaf to miss it! LOL!
One thing about this thread and these locations:
It in interesting to see how people are hiding them in these lower locations, but they are not in a good line of sight when you are driving. Most, including myself, put the remote display on top of the column (in front of the warning light display) where is is easy to see when quickly glancing at the gauges. After all, the primary reason for getting a remote display is with the unit hanging from the visor or being at the top of the windshield making it difficult to see the display. Many cars, like my previous G35, don't have locations in clear site where you can put he display. As a result you end up putting them in the storage shelf or the ash tray. Fortunately, we have a great location to mount it and don't have to rig altertative.
Also, does it seem strange to put a cassette holder in a car without a cassette player?
The
cops
care.
If you get caught for speeding, you don't want the trooper seeing your RD. If he does, your slim chance of a warning just dropped to zero.
(And, of course, some people like to use them in places where they're banned.)
I can look down at the concealed display simply by moving my eyeballs...I cannot see the unconcealed clearly without having to move my head...it is simple as that...
I don't like cars following me to see the display on the unit, especially at night. Also, I have my unit tucked up behind the rearview mirror, partially blocking the display. I'm careful to make sure the rear-facing sensor is not blocked by the mirror. I didn't mount on the column because I don't want to block the idiot lights - never know when you might need them (insert your own joke). I also like having the display concealed. I only look at it when the beeping starts.
are there any after market products I can put where the cassette holder is? I want to remove it (looks cheap to me) but don't want a big gap there. Any pointers?
You can buy a second cubby, porsche OEM, looks just like the existing one that you might have on bottom of center stack. Check Suncoast Porsche Online parts sales. They cost abot $30 IIRC.
Just did that swap myself. 10 second mod. Cassette snaps out, cubby snaps in.
I wish all mods are that simple.
I like the look of the V1 unit in the cassette holder. I just dont know what to do the the other 3 avail cassette slots
