I will need to change mine in 27,000 miles or 57,000 miles depending on if a new remanufactured engine goes by the latest recommended change interval of 60,000 or the original 30,000 miles for the 1999 996.

BTW - I am sure you know that if you run 15W-50 oil in your car, you have to add 1 PSI to your tire pressure, because the 15W-50 oil is heavier than 0W-40 oil.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
30 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I planned to change the oil and filter last weekend. So I got the oil (Mobil 1 0-40) and filter from the local Schucks, drained the oil, then started to change the filter ... guess what ... wrong filter.
It's the one Schucks say is the right one, but their database is SO wrong! I changed the oil anyway, but still want to swap out the filter.
If I unscrew the filter, will I get a pint or so of oil come out, or all 9-10 quarts?
Thanks guys!
Not a chance. A quart is absolutely NEVER going to be in the filter and the cover. It is very minimal (as 1999 said, it is just ounces). To drain a quart from that location you would need to drain the small amount in there, replace, start the car, and repeat the entire process at least a dozen times if not many more.
Starbucks, here I come!
Glad to know removing the filter is less of a mess than on my 944 (with an upside-down filter)! I may actually change my own oil on my 996.
Ha! I'm so tired of those pop up headlights. Feels like I can light up the planet with my Litronics, compared to the tiny bulbs in the limiting pop ups!
Cory, I'm not going to get into a pissin' match with you but your post insinuates that there is the "possibility" of a quart (roughly and entire LITER of oil). And as I stated, there is absolutely NO WAY for anything close to that coming out.
A more accurate statement would have been one that is conmensurate with what can ACTUALLY be possible on the HIGH side and a full liter is NOT possible or anywhere close to that.
I said tops because the OP was concerned on how much oil would come out.
The OP was thinking there was a possibility of 9-10 quarts of oil coming out.
If someone said less than a quart or liter, I would be like ok, it not the 9-10 quarts I thought may of came out and I wasted all my oil. That is all.
Geez, splitting hairs here. Rough day at the University? Here have a coke and a
I guess you can't see the forest for the trees. There is nothing about my statement of splitting hairs other than informing the OP exactly what to expect rather than a blanket statment that is actually not possible. But by your rationale you could have just said 2 quarts tops and it would have been no different right?
The whole reason I responded to this thread is that it gets very tiresome to see inaccurate information consistently posted on this forum by people that THINK they know the correct answer rather than KNOW the correct answer. I think the OP would appreciate what the RANGE of oil in the cannister is or what the possible max is not just some random guess that covers it all.
Understand now?
And yes, rough day at the University. You give the students a 2-hour review session AND trying something new allow them to use their notes on the exam and they still can't pass. This is the crap that drives us to the private sector making $$$ in consulting. I'm off to have a DIET coke and a
Yes, I posted a blanket statement because it sounded like he wanted a blanket answer.
If I said IT WILL LOSE 1 quart or liter, yes, that is misinformation.
Saying tops is < 1 quart, I dont find as misinformation, just letting him know it is not a BIG DEAL because it is < 1 quart.
Good day Dell, I hope things get better.
Back to your OT hole that you live in Gretch. You really are a piece of work. You love to dive bomb threads, drop insult after insult, attack, flame, name call, and just generally talk crap behind the safety of your keyboard. Hypocrite.
This difference between people like me and poeple like you is that I have the ability to admit my mistakes and wrongs. You on the other hand like to point out other people's mistakes and wrongs.
You really are an insecure narcissist. Beat up alot on the school ground as a kid? You sure do act that way. Reply away all you want but it will fall on deaf ears since I think it's about time to add your mug to the ignore list .
The original question was something like how much oil would come out if you unscrewed the oil filter canister, as in a filter replacement. Or, would all the engine oil come out. Like, if you removed the drain plug for the pan.
It is still about 1 1/2 cups....
What spark plug works best with 15W50? I will need to change mine in 27,000 miles or 57,000 miles depending on if a new remanufactured engine goes by the latest recommended change interval of 60,000 or the original 30,000 miles for the 1999 996. Anyone know? BTW any 15W50 is better than Mobile One 0W40 nanny nanny boo boo!!!
I love it!
