Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Plus, the RUF kit actually creates more downforce (Autobahn tested) and improves brake cooling with larger vents and custom duct work.
Leading evidence: 'Test ) and improves brake cooling' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'only one' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair tube' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

My opinion only, I know I'm probably the only one that so strongly dislikes it.

Repaired it with a industrial bumper repair tube that was made for various plastics.

I will consider this when it comes time for me to possibly change my grill!

Suggestion
If I ever bang up the nose (hope not too) or get a bunch of money (there is always hope) I would love to do a 997 GT3 nose conversion and maybe drop the 997 3.8l X51 into my car and run PCA as a "997" update.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

i've been entertaining the 02 facelift until i came across this........ what do you think? it also cost less as well...... personally, i like it and i think i might just do it......
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...02938356QQrdZ1
that's cool chuck.... everyone has their taste.... but i always liked the 997 face..... looks more like an aggressive 993........ for the price, i can choose an 02 facelift... so why not go for the 06.....?
i think it would look decent if it was going on a 996. Definitly not a boxster..its too thin and "slender" to support such a bulbous aggressive front.
Different strokes for different folks tho. If you want it, do it.
Cheers
Nope, but I prefer the look of the facelift 996 to that of the 997. It would also potentially impact the resale value of the car; buyers tend to shy away from modded cars IMHO.
The 997 GT3 has the best looking front end of any Porsche ever made to me, period. I would have to see it on a 996 painted to say yes for sure in your case.
I am leaning toward yes for now from what I can tell.
Don't do it. For $1,899 you can get a RUF RGT front bumper that is made of polyurethane, just like the OEM bumper. Even with the additional $1,099 for the matching sideskirts it is still cheaper than the kit from eBay. Plus, the RUF kit actually creates more downforce (Autobahn tested) and improves brake cooling with larger vents and custom duct work. And it looks great -- more aggressive looking than the Porsche aerokit but not over the top like the TechArt and Gemballa kits.
Smile - how many 993's have you seen with a 996 front bumper? Combining 997 & 996 parts will disrupt up the 911 gene pool!
Staying within the 996 "family" would be better.
I dont know about the non-aero bumper but my MK I aero bumper is not polyurethane, but plastic.
I tried to knock a curb down with the bottom side of my bumper, well the curb won and I tore the whole drivers side of the bumper, about 12-14 inches (sorry Dell for the inaccuracy, I will measure exactly next time, haha).
Repaired it with a industrial bumper repair tube that was made for various plastics. On the inside of the bumper in raised letters has the acronym for the plastic Porsche uses.
The paint didnt require a flex agent either, polyurethane does.
To me the subtile lines of a 996 make a statement that less is more.
The abomination in your link looks like what all the kids do to their 20 year old Asian imports. The grille opening looks like it has a strong Mazda influence, just like the 997 GT3.
My opinion only, I know I'm probably the only one that so strongly dislikes it.
(BTW my business is customizing vehicles and building high performance and race motors)
Unless you do the whole front and rear, which will cost you like 20k...see this one....
http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=80685
then no...and even if you do that, you still have the mismatched 996 interior....I would say NO...do the 02+ facelift and be done with it.
My opinion: Upgrade to 02+ is minor facelift, probably acceptable to many prospective buyers in resale. Upgrade to 997 front end makes it look like something it isn't and probably scares off prospective buyers. Of course, this only matters if you plan to sell at some point.
If I ever bang up the nose (hope not too) or get a bunch of money (there is always hope) I would love to do a 997 GT3 nose conversion and maybe drop the 997 3.8l X51 into my car and run PCA as a "997" update. Hehe, that would be fun
If you get it, add the snow plow option. I'm sure eBay will have one that will fit "perfectly."
I agree with the others for a number of reasons - please don't do it.
I like it however I would opt for the poly version not the fiberglass. Those guys are known to make molds of kits and resell them in fiberglass. In other words, your body man may need to do some more work when attaching the panels
Leave yours alone, I love the original lines of the 996 with full earokit... even think the fried egg lights are better looking than the 2nd gen headlights
I think doing a front upgrade to a 997 is a little strange.....but what Misha did....yes I would do that upgrade!! that car is the best of both worlds!!
I just found a place in the neighboorhood that does that and I went to look at it... they did an amazing job on a yellow cab 996... not sure what material, I was loking at a taco wing (not great) but then I found my wing... you should go check it out... on Garlfield one block south of the river (Alhambra) on the East side... forgot the name.
By the way I meant to say I got my wing fom Schnell and not the shop I mentioned, their stuff was fiberglass... although they have all kind of other products which you might want to look at...
you know... looks like the pcar community likes the as original as possible look.... i know the 02 lift is minor, and the 997 one is a major reconstruction...... i think the ruf is a great option.......although i do love that 997 look......
The Ruf is a great option because it's designed for the 996. I've never been a fan of pretending to be another car year and I definitely think that it would impact resale value to some degree, esp. from purists who would pay higher dollars.
Uhhh...pasadena.
For me, that's approaching the outskirts of Poserville. But then my car is totally stock, except for the clear side markers.
I would be concerned that the kit is poor quality and would crater the resale on the car.
