Incidentally, a dealer swapped off my nice looking plate frame and put on their 'decorative' rear plate frame advertising the shop.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

22 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car has none...do I have to get them from the dealer, or is there a standard size that I can buy at any hardware store?

POST 2Original post

I just use any good-looking screw for my cars. There are some plastic ones as well. Just paint the top of the screw head with a small brush when you are done. Some licence plate frames come with mini plastic plugs for the screws.

POST 3Original post

If you plan on buying any aftermarket plate frame, they all come with new screws along with decorative caps that will hide them.

POST 4Original post

If you drive it correctly, the license plate will blow off along the way, making the lack of proper screws irrelevant.

POST 5Original post

Actually Ive done quite of bit of research on aerodyamics, physics and quantitative mathematical vacuum analysis. If you in fact drive the car "correctly" the air pressure from the vaccuum created by airflow over, under and around the bumpers of said vehicle should hold the plate in place if 107.6 pounds of inertia is maintained or the equivelant of 69.331 kmh.

POST 6Original post

I've heard that works by stretching carbon-carbon bonds, making them more maleable and allowing greater adhesion to the bumper... oh yeah, and it adds 10 hp.

POST 7Original post

I bought some from the dealer, figuring that the thread pattern would most likely match the existing holes. It worked. If you buy some from a hardware store, you might pop for stainless screws so that they don't rust.

POST 8Original post

Actually the max hp produced is 9.3 hp at the highest curve in the rpm band.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You nutty guys! My car came with the mounting plates, with screw holes, but no screws. Any idea on the size/width I need? PS--Depending on the shape of the letters on a particular plate, you can gain a few HP. Example, the letters I, L, and T are all good aerodynamically.

POST 10Original post

You need to talk to the guy that is afraid of his spark plugs DEGRADING if he leaves his car parked too long.............................................. This is a bit like a Seinfeld episode.................................... My head hurtzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

POST 11Original post

...better to be nutty than screwed. As for aerodynamics, the curvy letters are more aerodynamic.

POST 12Original post

stainless steel screws are so much heaver, get the titanium they dont rust either much lighter, though they cost more, but they are a great performance mod

POST 13Original post

Do all of you have front plates at all times? If you can tell us what state you are from and whether anyone ever gets in trouble without front plates....I would love to not have a front plate. I am from Washington state: where front plate is (unfortunately) necessary and all the P-cars, sports cars, etc. look like Bugs Bunny with the front plate looking like giant incisors from a distance.

POST 17Original post

FL plates....don't need them. NY plates....do need them. Guess where my car is registered? Incidentally, a dealer swapped off my nice looking plate frame and put on their 'decorative' rear plate frame advertising the shop. Sure as hell, when I went to put my nice chrome one back on, the top left corner screw hole is stripped. Off to the hardware store to find a slightly larger screw. Ugh. Why do dealers persist in doing this?!

POST 18Original post

Because it is free advertising! I hate that ****! If and when I buy my next new car, I am going to tell them they will have to pay me an advertising fee of $100 per month for each dealer logo, emblem or insignia on my car. That should ensure that my car will be as Porsche intended...... naked!

POST 19Original post

NJ (with NYPD shoulder patch on dashboard and gold PBA badge in wallet). I typically run plateless (in front) until the first suggestion by local or state police. Sometimes it takes a year or more.

POST 21Original post

Louisiana and Mississippi no front plate required.

POST 22Original post

First time they did that to me I'd chew out the service manager and instruct them that if they wanted to continue to have my business, then they should cease defacing my property. It's that sample.
