Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have had a strange clicking noise from the rear (possible transmission area) of my 996 every time I back up or going forward during the clutch engagement, but goes away within 20-30 seconds of driving. This noise will only happy when the car is cold, will never do it when it is warmed up. And only during the modulation of the clutch pedal, will not make the clicking noise when the clutch is all the in or out. I did a search and read there were others that have had the same experiences. I thought it was maybe from the clutch slave cylinder or somewhere in the clutch. But for some strange reason after I changed the water pump recently the clicking noise is gone. Food for thought....

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The noise is from the outside of the engine area, definitely not a valve tapping noise. More like clack clack clack, really sounds like a clutch. Again the noise is all gone after the new water pump.

POST 5Original post

Sounds like a clutch finger sticking out tapping the throwout bearing because it silences when the clutch is depressed.

POST 6Original post

You sure? First you said it was a clicking noise, now you say it's a clack? Clack, clack? Sorta like quack, quack? Like a duck? And now with the water pump fixed, it's gone. So you think the duck has gone too? Hmmmmm...
