Essentially you just set the bike on the tray and then an arm clamps over the front wheel.

I have seen the rack you have but I was concerned about the weight for use on Pcars.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

for those of you using hitch mount bike racks, I'm considering this new style rack from Saris called the Thelma. Anyone using it?
It got my attention because its one piece, weighs only 26 pounds and doesn't require the removal of the front wheel. And since its one integrated unit its price is low at $249 (not including the hitch system).

It's a single receiver (1 1/4" or 2") that won't work with the
willwood
two receiver system but willwood says they are developing a one hitch receiver that is concealed behind the license plate.
Anyone else interested? Maybe there is a group buy oppourtunity here.

I have a rack like this, not this one, but works very similar. Essentially you just set the bike on the tray and then an arm clamps over the front wheel. It is by far the best rack I have owned. I will look into what the brand I have is, but like I said it is basically the same thing. Mine is heavy but it goes on an suv and can take up to 4 bikes. With 2 of the bike trays removeable if you don't need them. it folds up flush to the tailgate when not in use as well. Not having to take the front wheel off is just so nice.

The Saris Thelma being only 26 pounds seems to address some of concerns regarding excessive toe weight. Figure the average bike weighs 25-30 pounds, plus the weight of the hitch (10lbs.?), and the 26 pound Thelma carrier...bring the total on board weight over 60 pounds.
I'm sure the other applications from Thule and Yakima would weigh in significantly more, kind of scary if you are mounting to the bodywork of the PCar vs. the actual frame.
