Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Turns out it was a big deal, because when you disconnect the battery (or if you let it completely run out), the engine monitors get reset.

If you need to get smogged, be sure not to change your battery (or disconnect it!) in close proximity!!

Suggestion
So the testing station didn't have any problems interrogating/hooking up to your ECU it was just that the readiness codes weren't set?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I need to get my P smogged and read a couple of horror stories on rennlist....
Anybody in the Orange county area know where to go???
thanks....
Nicolaas
I'm in OC, do you have anything that would prevent you from passing? If everything is in line, I've smogged a few cars in the Orange County area, and I've been pretty happy with a small place across the street from John Wayne Airport in Newport Beach.
PLUS they have a coupon online for $10 off.

let me know where...thanks
I went to a test only station and they couldn't even get the computer hooked up..it gave a error reading.. they guy told me that my computer might be broken...or a wire disconnected.....but if this is true would my car still drive??
Anyway I will bring my P in to my independent shop....see what he says on Monday
When I bought my car, there was a HUGE debate about whether I needed to get it smogged. The car is a 2003, and the DMV website says it does not need to be smogged on sale until next year. Everyone else (the bank, AAA, and the hobo that was sitting outside the bank) said it needed it. Turns out it was a big deal, because when you disconnect the battery (or if you let it completely run out), the engine monitors get reset.
I didn't even know the engine HAD monitors for smog checks until this fiasco. The previous owner had changed the battery (after letting the poor car sit idle for 6 months) in December, and had only driven it ~200 miles since then. Apparently, these engine monitors require a bunch of driving to gather engine performance data, and it is very hard to determine exactly how many miles or what kind of driving. So the car wouldn't pass smog, simply because the internal monitors were not 'ready'.
We eventually convinced everyone involved to let us transfer the title according to the DMV rules, rather than what people THOUGHT were the rules, but it was a huge hassle.

that is my problem...my battery died on me, because I had a XM radio charger sitting in it for a week or so and didn't drive the car. This was about a month ago...and I haven't driven that much since!!
I will see what my dealer does...he is good and honest!! Pristine Porsche in Huntington Beach....if your good you got to get mentioned!! And no I am not affiliated....just a very happy costumer!
don't know...the "mechanic" hardly spoke English and my Asian ( I don't know what Asian country he originated from) is not that great....so it was difficult to understand what the problem was.....I never had a car that needed to be smogged, had I known I would have gone to my "shop"...now I know.
I will know more on Monday.
