Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

unexpectedly, the c2 replaced my bmw as a daily driver and quickly sold that.
Leading evidence: 'Replace bmw as a daily driver and quickly sold' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'better daily driver since you don't have' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace bmw as a daily driver and quickly sold' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

anyway, my point is that although the 997 is pretty awesome, since owning one, i have a renewed respect for the 996.

all this being said, i now recognize that the 3.4 996 is pretty cool cuz it pulls harder from the lower rpms and thus is probably a better daily driver since you don't have to wring it out to take advantage of it.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

first off, my first foray into p fora was this site, and specifically the 996 board. i learned so incredibly much going through the archives and really got a kick out of everyone here. for this, just want to say thanks! sincerely. i just hope i contributed something here and there.
my first p-car was a 2000 C2 purchased in 10/06. since then, i've been hooked-- real bad. in a matter of months, put 6k very happy miles on it. unexpectedly, the c2 replaced my bmw as a daily driver and quickly sold that. since i drive about 25k miles/year, i decided a wanted a bit more amenities in a more modern package. while there was absolutely nothing wrong with the 996, i did feel the interior seemed a bit 'cheap' and dated-- admittedly, i didn't have full leather, nav, bose, or any custom interior bits. in the end, my upgrade was just a product of totally irrational impulse-- since the 996 perfectly served as a great daily driver for me.
i got a 2005 C2S launch model (pasm, sports chrono, nav, pccb's, full leather, sports adaptive seats). needless to say, it's a fantastic car. the car loves to rev and pull hard-- more so after 3k rpms. all this being said, i now recognize that the 3.4 996 is pretty cool cuz it pulls harder from the lower rpms and thus is probably a better daily driver since you don't have to wring it out to take advantage of it. and, even with the non sports suspension, my 996 feels like a track car compared to the 997. yes, the car isn't as modern feeling, but its relative rawness is refreshing. for you bimmerheads out there, think e30 to e36 to e46 and now e90. don't know if the 993 to 996 analogy works here. anyway, my point is that although the 997 is pretty awesome, since owning one, i have a renewed respect for the 996.
here's a pic of the 997.
p.s. the 996 is still for sale.
Very nice car! I myself own a 2000 C2 and really enjoy the pull from idle to redline but I must admit that I never thought I'd hear someone say their 996 pulled harder from low revs than the 997.
Congratulations on your purchase.
thanks guys!
well, it's my initial limited impression, but seems pretty spot on so far. the 3.8's more of a classic race engine. i would say analogous to the bmw m3, which makes most of its hp/torque high, unlike the 330 zhp i recently sold. in everyday driving, the 330 made better use of its hp/tq b/c it made it lower, whereas the m3 sings on the track.
Nice thing is, we will always know where you came from, with that username!!
One of the things that seperate us from M3 owners is, when a new model comes out, we don't knock it and complain about why its not as great as our model. We see it as an ongoing lineage, a story of sorts that has gone on for almost 50 years. A new model, is simply another chapter...
We see it as a positive evolution and new P owners see the elder model as a future classic and better appreciatte all its attributes.
Anyhow, we're all in the same family and should not be devided or separated by different forum rooms.
That said, I think we will soon see a lot of 996'rs moving up/over, yet still keeping their eyes and words in on the 996 forum, I know I will when I "make the jump up", scratch that, "make the jump OVER".
Enjoy your new car, please give us updates on you like it, in the weeks/months to come.
Peace,
Gant
arrOgant, i understand you'll be movin' over soon. good luck with your sale.
bet, that's interesting. my 3.8 has good mid and upper pull, but under 3k rpms, not so much. my 996 had the 3.4, not the 3.6 which i understand made it into the 997. i've also heard before the eagerness to rev observation, but is that necessarily synonymous with where power is made? dunno. all i know is that my 996 has serious pull beginning just north of 2k rpms-- noticeably more than my 3.8. here's some comparision numbers, which confuses me more:
996 Carrera 3.4: 300 hp @ 6,800 rpm
258 lb-ft @ 4,600 rpm
997 Carrera: 325 @ 6800 rpm
997 Carrera S: 355 @ 6600 rpm
997 Carrera: 273 lb-ft @ 4250 rpm
997 Carrera S: 295 lb-ft @ 4600 rpm
I am not sure what happened to my original post. I was editing something and now it gone...hmmm.
Nine9sixer, I too had the 3.4 in my 996 and I too found this engine to a much more freer reving engine than the 3.6 that came in the 2002+ 996s, even though the 3.6 was more powerful. I always liked the gearing, torque, hp combination of the 3.4. There was definitely a sweet pull to performance from about 2700k through about 5k rpm. To me "freer" reving makes the engine feel like it wants to be wound up and bounced of the rev limiter, while the less free reving engine will do the same but it seems to be more strained to do the same. I am not doing a good job of conveying what i mean (guess that is why I am not an automotive journalist). Regardless, you got yourself a fantastic car. Enjoy it.
