Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Everyone,
Starting to do some research on turbos. Any suggestions on things i should look for as problem areas? I know some things, but would like to know more. I've become familiar with the M96 engine, but obviously turbo is different.
Thanks!
After reading volumes about the 911 turbo, I bought mine from a previous owner that did not have the car long and had a PPI done on it before I bought it. I already knew the issues with it and went about fixing them as I saved the money to do so. I just have the wing issue and a/c/heat controller screen as my last 2 major issues. I put a new top on it and had it tuned. I had all the fluids changed out right after buying it. It has ran well and does not have a long history like some cars had. It did not have the 2nd gear issue and figured (crossed my fingers but justified) that it was not driven badly or the 2nd gear issue would have been an issue.
Some issues were already done like the clutch and coolant reservoir. If the car has such low miles, odds are, it has been driven well. I would not sweat the little things. Just know that things will have to be done to it due to not having miles on it, in the future and budget for them now. My car has nearly 88k miles on it now and runs great. The only thing I do not like is, an previous owner put an aftermarket clutch that catches near the top and there is no way to 'safely' adjust this as, I prefer a clutch to catch about an inch or so off the floor. That and, it catches very quickly. Until I got used to the clutch, I killed it more times that all my other stick shift cars combined and, I have been driving for nearly 30 years. One day, I will have it changed out for something better and more to my liking. If not, I may sell it one day but, that depends. My car is rare, according to the production numbers as I have a 996 turbo convertible and only around 3500 or less were made. I am not sure how many were manuals but, makes it even more rare.
They are great cars and when treated well, they will last a long time.
All great advice here. I bought an 01 Turbo with 55k miles, owned it for the last six years, no second gear pop put issues, at least so far. Most expensive repair was a water pump last fall. Rear spoiler never worked from day one. I removed the hydraulic system and installed the Ebwerks manually adjustable fixed system, problem solved. Once you get a taste of the boost pushing you like you were just shot out of a slingshot there is no going back. It is very addicting, to the point were you get used to it and want to upgrade the power which is very easy on these cars. My advice, dont pass up on a nice 01 or 02 model if you happen to find a nice one with lower mileage that was well cared for.
