Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have replaced my cluster and with a used cluster and had to have a place reprogram the miles...so miles are definitely linked to cluster.

Leading evidence: 'Replace cluster' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check ambient air temp sensor' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Removed the cluster and tested the wiring between the sensor and the cluster and found the wiring tested ok at this time.

correct its a 996.1, i checked the ambient air temp sensor and that ok, are you saying if the fan no longer works that could be the issue?

hmm now that makes me wonder reading this again if they checked the coolant temp sensor, i will ask them because thats probably it.

2 if a C4 or up ME7, disconnect pin 14 from connector III..(Y/RE)

Disconnect wire at the dme will prevent this

Suggestion
These wires are tied to the low coolant sensor also, and the DME will ground the wire if an engine compartment cooling fan issue arises, so disconnecting the wire at the DME will prevent this, but allow the "low coolant warning" to function normally.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am having a problem where my instrument cluster keeps saying that there is low coolant, i already replaced the sensor once and now i have it at a shop and they also verified the sensor is good.Anyone ever see this before? I guess if i have to replace the cluster ok but I am not convinced the cluster is bad. I can just swap the cluster right? the ECU will send back all of the info on the miles etc?
this is what they told me
Removed the air box and sec air pump, tested the coolant level sensor and found the sensor functioning normally at this time. Verified ground on pin 2 of the sensor connector. Removed the cluster and tested the wiring between the sensor and the cluster and found the wiring tested ok at this time. Reconnected the cluster and verified the live data still shows the level not ok. Appears the cluster will need to be replaced at this time
No, the mileage is stored in the cluster. Changing the cluster will result in a change in the mileage.
More info is needed to help in the diagnosis, but from your Avitar you have a 996.1, and seems the shop is doing the diag and not you personally.
Be aware that the "low coolant slow flash" will also be done if there is a "engine compartment cooling fan " problem and the wiring is tied together..so there could be an issue there that the shop is not aware of..
correct its a 996.1, i checked the ambient air temp sensor and that ok, are you saying if the fan no longer works that could be the issue? I dont think i have ever heard the fan come on in my car, but i did put 12v to it to confirm it was working. I have tried everything so finally i took it to a shop because i couldn't figure it out, I was hoping they would find something i missed but of course not lol
if the cluster shows the mileage than thats not an option, my car only has 30k on it
maybe it will be electrical tape / unplugging that light lol
I have replaced my cluster and with a used cluster and had to have a place reprogram the miles...so miles are definitely linked to cluster.
I would not do a hack as you say....figure out what is wrong.
Four functions of the coolant warning light:
1. Engine coolant level too low -- light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz)
2. Engine compartment temperature too high -- light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz) (engine compartment blower might be faulty)
3. Engine coolant temperature too high -- light is lit; pointer on the right
4. Temperature sensor at water outlet faulty -- light flashes rapidly (1 Hz) ; pointer on the right
Note: The temperature warning in point three is indicated if the conditions "engine coolant temperature too high" and "engine coolant level too low" are present simultaneously.
Another thing to check is to make sure the engine compartment temp sensor is in the grommet and not laying on the side of the engine block. Sensor is located between inlet manifolds runners for #4 and #5 cylinders.
To eliminate the possibility that the "engine cooling fan" is causing the "low coolant warning", you can :
1 if a 99 C2 disconnect pin 65 at the DME ME5.2.2 (Y/BL/RE)
2 if a C4 or up ME7, disconnect pin 14 from connector III..(Y/RE)
These wires are tied to the low coolant sensor also, and the DME will ground the wire if an engine compartment cooling fan issue arises, so disconnecting the wire at the DME will prevent this, but allow the "low coolant warning" to function normally.
U should take the car to someone else. The light on the cluster is just a light. Unless something melted and magically connected the circuit then there is nothing wrong with the cluster. They need to use a meter and see which sensor is closed and connecting the ground. Your shop us just throwing parts at it at your expense.
Isnt the slow blink (0.5Hz) also the Engine compartment temperature too high -- light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz) (engine compartment blower might be faulty)
