Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So some of you have been following my 3.8L build thread and while I'm waiting to get my cylinders back from LN Engineering, I'm trying to evaluate what else I need to replace. For those that don't know I had a valve seat issue on cylinder #5. It was caught early on and while there was some damage to the cylinder and the top of the head, there were no chunks of metal in the sump plate and you really had to look for metal inn the oil. Compared to some of the damage I've seen in other people's build threads, I think I got off easy. (Well LN still needs to re-sleeve #5 and I've got to get the heads repaired). Anyway, my question is what hydraulic parts do those of you that have been in this situation feel need to be replaced. TomCat said in a post " You are probably going to to have to replace all three oil pumps. Then all hydraulic actuators, tensioners, lifters, and variable cam sprockets. Filters under two of the actuators in the heads. Replace or clean the air oil separators in the sump. And clean out the crank and cams through the oiling holes." This just gets scary when I start to add up the parts. So, is there any way to clean any of the parts listed to a level that ensures they would be free of FOD?

First question is how much is your budget for your engine rebuild?
