Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking at a 2002 Cab with 60k miles that checks all the boxes except one issue, small amount of oily sludge inside the coolant cap. There isn't any oily sludge floating in the coolant reservoir. The dipstick, oil fill tube and cap are clean. Seller only put 2k miles a year on it last two years and stated the coolant cap hasn't been off for at least three years. Oil is changed every year during annual maintenance by a Porsche shop. I've read that a small amount of sludge is acceptable on the oil cap due to condensation from short drives, but are there any acceptable reasons to have a small amount of sludge on the coolant cap?

POST 2Original post

^^^ Nope! Sumpum looks fishy to me... I'd take it for a nice long drive and get it up to operating temp. Then let it cool down and check the coolant again. Even if it's fixed now, that cap was on a reservoir that had an intermix - the seller is not telling the the truth/whole story.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks and yeah, I searched and couldn't find anyone saying "a little oily sludge is acceptable", this for a Porsche or any car for that matter. Sadly I gotta pass on this one.

POST 4Original post

Nice detective work. Its the little things that show red flags. Glad you avoided this one.

POST 5Original post

I saw a weird substance in my oil filler tube once and freaked out. Apparently that is an OK "thing," though.

Whitish, orange stuff on the tube near the top is OK. A long drive will get rid of it. Weird stuff in the coolant, though...not good.
