Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suspected cause
I thought my speedo issue was due to change in wheel/tire profile...very interesting.
Leading evidence: 'due' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'due' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Set 5 mph faster' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Are you suggesting the speedo is intentionally set 5 mph faster from the factory?

Funny thing for me was while I had my car set on cruise at 73 testing the speedo to find out exactly what speed my GPS would display I was pulled over and ticketed for doing 80 in a 65.

Any other ideas???If you are in South Orange County CA area and want to test your 996, I'll hitch a ride and we can test your actual speedo.

I guess I am going to have to test the actual distance on the highway when mileage markers are set.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a hand held GPS and have used it with my other cars and have used the speed function to see if my speedo was accurate. The hand held GPS is extremely accurate. I decided to test it on my 2002 C4S ( I have only had the car for 5 months now) The indicated speed in the car is 5 miles per hour faster than the GPS. Is there a fix for this? One would assume that I am putting more mileage on the car than acutal.
Are you suggesting the speedo is intentionally set 5 mph faster from the factory? Why? To prevent speading tickets (meaning you are actually traveling 5 mph slower than you expect)?

The difference would be exaggerated at higher speeds, but seems odd that they would do this intentionally. I thought my speedo issue was due to change in wheel/tire profile...very interesting.
I think all car manufacturers do this to some degree. If the speedo was *ever* reading slow and someone got a ticket from that fact and could prove it, they'd probably be open to a lawsuit, especially in America. So it's easier to err on the side of caution.
Does the Porsche GPS system have a speed readout? It would be interesting to compare readings on the THREE speed displays if so...

Man, it was hard enough to supress all of that in the courtroom while using internet court tactics. So after court I was relieved, calm and didn't want to get worked up on the way home, especially since he and I would be sharing the same highway home.
Not to mention the 20 other times I've been pulled over for such other things like "almost running a red light" or "passing a police officer while he's doing 15mph in a 25mph zone with a glock 17 pointed at my forehead after I pulled over" and my favorite while visiting in Miami "fit the discription of bank robbers who robbed a back 15 hrs earlier". All this Leads me to understand exactly why he gave me the ticket.
I do want to mention there are 10 of 34 times I've been pulled over for legit reasons two of which include speeds over 100mph where I receive no tickets..
I too have the mystery digital speedo issue on my 2000 C2. Funny enough, the analog speedo is spot on at all speeds. The digital speedo reads 4-5 mi higher at anything above 15mph. Confirmed with Garmin C330 GPS.
Those craaaazy Germans.
My experience with the Garmin is that they are pretty darn accurate on Ford's, Chevy, BMW, Volvo, Lexus and my Malibu Boat, Oh, by the way the are friggin super accurate on a Super King Air 300 screaming at 350 kts. On my 02 C4S the accuracy is suspect. I can't understand why they would over-enginer a cup holder or those special amber lights that light up our footwells and ingition switches and still have spedo issues. No harm no foul. Still am super happy @ on the 241 north to Lake Forest, running hard, clear roads, no cops and having a great time at 0630 this am.
