*sigh* This is why I do not let the temper out any more...life with a humor problem is much more enjoyable than life with an anger problem.

For that reason, I installed the Porsche OEM skid-plate to add extra protection just in case I can't avoid those things on the highways.

With the tow, two nights in a hotel, but no car rental fee the dealer gave me a free loaner, and the repair the total came to around $1600.

His insurance company paid to replace the engine, though, so a happy ending.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was driving home tonight and out of what seemed no where the car in front of me attempted to dodge a questionable item that I then immediately ran over and found out in its flailing manner in my rear view it was what I am assuming a big rig tire that was ripped off. A scare in the moment but car seemed okay, exited as soon as possible to make sure it was good.
Everything major is good, but it ripped off my chin spoiler
I will need a little bumper repair too. Ah man, this just after my car lost its taillight, I am on a string of bad luck and need this to stop!
Granted it could have been worse, or just not happened at all! LOL
I will post on classifieds as well, but does anyone have a C4S or turbo (open to putting a turbo lip on the 4S) lying around and willing to unload? I live in Tustin CA, incase anyone local or willing to ship.
Any help appreciated.
Close call for sure; Glad your car is OK and only the front lip spoiler got damaged... My worst fear is one of those tire rib taking out my oil pan. For that reason, I installed the Porsche OEM skid-plate to add extra protection just in case I can't avoid those things on the highways. Cheers,
I feel your pain. I had a remnant rip most of the front off my old XK8 and that was outbound on a long weekend road trip already about 200 miles from home.
Luckily it was all just superficial damage so it was still drivable, but it was depressing to look at
I'm not completely sure on this - but its definitely worth making the call. My insurance company treated hitting debris in the road as a comprehensive claim. IE: very low deductible and no penalty in terms of premiums for the claim.
I sure hope that semi had a spare tire. Otherwise, he could be stranded!
Seriously, though - that sucks. I was driving back from Chicago to San Diego years ago when the sand hauler in front of me threw a tread. Destroyed the front bumper cover, the "grille," and some other pretty brutal damage. Thankfully, the airbags didn't pop (this was a Mercury Tracer - I was young and desperate); a single airbag deployment would have totaled that turd. Thankfully, I watched the tread separate, fly through the air, and totally f*** my new car - so the trucking company wasn't able to pull the "it bounced off the road first, so it's a road hazard" BS...
Yeah it was just the tread part... but oh so appreciate the hidden gifts out there! It did crack the inner wheel wheel plastic too with the force of being ripped off but I can deal with that later... the missing lip is slightly depressing to see haha Feel so incomplete
Over here we call 'em "gators"...they look just like the gators that sit in the sun on the roads. Different car but a "gator" got launched by the car ahead and took out the grill and right headlamp assembly. Dang those things are a bitch!
Then one I hit was back in the day before kevlar - so in addition to taking 50 pounds of tread in the grill and front bumper, the damn thing had foot-long metal flails hanging out of both ends. It was one HELL of a "first ding" for that car.
Oh gee. A missing lip...
Consider yourself lucky.
I hit a Detroit Alligator (tire carcass) in my Boxster late one night on 50 highway outside of Strong City KS. The impact took out the bottom of the driver's side radiator.
After what seemed like hours finally got a flat bed tow truck and got a nice approx. 80 mile ride to Wichita KS where the next morning I booked the car in at the dealer for a new radiator and some associated hardware and a new wheel well liner. A day later the parts arrived and the car was done in the late afternoon.
Damage? With the tow, two nights in a hotel, but no car rental fee the dealer gave me a free loaner, and the repair the total came to around $1600.
Heh. I remembered as I was typing this reply that when we got nailed with that tread, the grill was knocked out of the car but it was lying in the road intact about a quarter mile back. I was jogging back go get it; when I was no more than 100 feet or so from it, a semi rounded the curve and crushed the damn thing.
I'm sure that I looked like an idiot standing on the side of the road jumping up and down, screaming obscenities and giving the guy the finger - with both barrels - repeatedly. *sigh* This is why I do not let the temper out any more...life with a humor problem is much more enjoyable than life with an anger problem.
The guy who sold me my '99 996 ran over an "alligator" and it broke the oil filter housing, which starved the engine of oil and grenaded it. His insurance company paid to replace the engine, though, so a happy ending.
BTW, a brand new front lip for a 996tt is only about $80 on either ebay or Amazon. Not sure about a C4S with the raised center part, but the 996tt lip will definitely fit.
That is a terrible story, talk about adding insult to injury... whew well yeah although this sucks, hey it could have been way, way worse. I have got the lip under control (thanks to a helpful rennlist member) and got a quote for a reshoot on the bumper. Life will go on. Its way faster now anyway, less drag without the lip
