great car....I also changed the strip....was pretty scarry, because you kind of got to pull it out with force!

The large strip and the strip to the right of the steering wheel were pretty straightfoward, just a matter of contorting your hand and using a small torx driver (due to the tight spaces) at the right angles.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, after lurking without posting for about a year, I figured it was finally time to become a member and introduce myself. After all, I posted my first message earlier today, and I certainly don't want to catch "blue hell" from "Now Mellow Dell" for posting without a proper introduction.
I'm a 31-year old Porsche nut that has managed to "infect" just about everyone in my family and several friends and co-workers. My Mom is now on her second Porsche, a Cayenne Turbo, my Dad drives an '02 996 C2 cab (with aerokit, fabspeed headers, ghl exhuast, giac chip, evo intake, kinisis wheels, and the list goes on). My brother-in-law has previously owned a boxster s and cayman s, and after experiments with an elise (which has now gone the way of all the earth) and a shelby series one, is about ready to rejoin the fold, via an 04 gt3. As proof of my addiction, I'll just say that I once had a Christmas when I was about 11 years old where every gift I recieved was Porsche-related (from models, to clothing items and books). In law school I nearly convinved my wife to let me purchase a 924 for $1500 that featured a rusty, straightened out hanger as the means of popping the hood.
I've owned a '98 Boxster and an '01 Boxster S, and for the past year or so have been the proud owner of a 99 Zenith Blue C2 Coupe tip (which is no doubt ready to grenade at any moment as I'm sure Dell will readily attest). Since buying the car I've added clear side markers, various arctic silver interior bits (center console, trim rings, dash strips (diy project), ignition surround, side airbag insignia, etc...). I've also painted the calipers and for a while tried my hand at an aftermarket intake (which is now sitting on my shelf next to the blown MAF that I can't throw away due to some irrational hope that someday another squirt of electrical contact cleaner might revive it).
Well, I love the car and plan to keep it for a long time. The fun factor has not even remotely begun to wear off, which is pretty amazing considering its a tip (I do like the tip, but its definately not the same. It was a worthwhile compromise however inasmuch as my wife loves this car, whereas she really did not care for the others, which she never really enjoyed driving).
Anyway, I look forward to participating on this board! Scott.
Well it is about time you participated
Thanks for beginning with me with your response on Redline Motorsports.
Your car is gorgeous and so are the kids. Hopefully I will meet you when I come for my new mistress
Scott - Welcome and a belated Congrats on getting a very nice looking 996! Nice intro and great pics of the car and the kids! Thanks for sharing them with us!
Been lurking for a year, huh? Well, I guess you ALMOST not a "Newbie" but no one avoids that completely. Maybe we'll let you "graduate" early.
Again, welcome and good choice on becoming a member!
Welcome! Your car is the color I was looking for...I really like it
Nice looking co-drivers also, although you may have left them in the drier a little too long....they shrunk
Congrats on the 996. I haven't seen many that color and a very nice example! I think the blue with the black interior and alumimium accents is very sharp.
Very nice! Who would have put money on that being a 99 - that's a 7/8 year old car
It looks immaculate (which mine normally is but this damn cold weather is stopping me from keeping it spotless!!!)
Welcome.
Wow. Thanks for the kind replies. I often joke with friends that my hobbies are washing my car and driving to work. The sad thing is most don't believe I'm joking (and actually, I'm not!). One great thing about the car is that it really is a pretty cool "family car" as long as the little ones aren't too big (mine are 4 and 2). Last night we all went out to eat and my son said "Sally is my best friend" when I put him in his little porsche car seat. Enough to bring a tear to my eye
(Ever since the Pixar movie "Cars" my car has been known as Sally in our household).
Kolshak,
The dash strips took a good couple hours, but I took a few breaks. The large strip and the strip to the right of the steering wheel were pretty straightfoward, just a matter of contorting your hand and using a small torx driver (due to the tight spaces) at the right angles. The strip to the left was a different ballgame altogether. I'm told the only real way to get to this strip without removing the dash is to remove the guage pod atop the dash, which I didn't want to do. So after trying to access the screws from the vent access hole I gave up, masked off everything, got a good art-quality paint brush and some arctic silver touch up paint and finished it off that way. I'll probably do it right later, but for now it looks pretty good.
Welome aboard, from a father of 2 young ones, I understand their enthusiam as well as yours (whoever said a p-car wasn't a family ride!) Love the interior (if the exterior were yellow it'd be perfect...well, for me it would be!)
Scott, your car looks great and the kids are adorable. My kids are 12, 14, and 17 years old. They still fit in the back seats and it's their favorite car for driving lessons. It won't be long before yours are asking to drive the Porsche. My youngest wants a 944 for his first. Cars are a fun addiction to share with your kids.
Your's does look an awful lot like Sally!
I think as a "punishment" for the late intro....you should collect all family members (with P-cars) and line them up for a "family portrait"....and ofcourse post that image!!
