Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Title says it all. The reason I ask is that both are the 2 approved tranny oils as listed by PCNA. However, the reason I ask is that the current PET catalog lists the Mobil Mobilube PTX as the ONLY gear oil for the 04-05 GT3 and the Shell Transaxle for all the rest of the 9X6 line. TIA! ps. I'll post this on Renntech as well in case there are any "Renntecher's" that don't frequent Rennlist.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow, nobody has any familiarity with this?

POST 3Original post

Not sure about the GT3, but I just called Sunset Porsche and I talked to them and they double checked for me through the service bulletins that 996 C2 uses Shell one and they don't use the Mobil one... they carry the Mobil, but the service department puts in Shell only now. Also a side note, they sell the Shell for $19 a liter, you need 2.7 liters, so you buy 3 liters. Mobil PTX is only sold 20 liter, which is pretty expensive. I have heard that the some race teams that run GT3 Cup cars use the Mobil PTX, which is hard to find. I talked to Bob at Sunset porsche and he was very helpful in looking up the proper fluid that they use for the service.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The PTX is not hard to find. The dealer will have it. True, they have 20L containers but my local dealer will sell it to you by the L if you bring in a container(s). As for the Shell Transaxle they have both. I have the TSB's that list the oils and both are listed but closer examination in the PET shows that the PTX is for the GT3 and the Transaxle is for everything else. I am pretty sure the diff is the GT3 LSD but I have no idea wha the differeneces are between the Shell and Mobil oils and exactly why they list differently.

POST 5Original post

Dell - I "googled" both and it seems mobilube had a viscosity up to 140 (along with the 90) weight and shell only up to 90 weight, so maybe the mobilube possibly is thicker for more endurance? Just throwing it out there as I dont know for sure.

POST 6Original post

Dell, here's the stuff the teams are using... http://www.lufteknic.com/Merchant2/m...ode=lubricants Mobilube SHC, no need to add LSD friction modifier...it's good to run as is.
