Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I can change those but it will probably run me abour $1500 for everything.

Porsche mechanic said he probably just needs to clear the code for the airbag (apparently I searched renntech and it is a common problem that just needs to be reset).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey fellow Rennlisters,
I had to hold off on the P-car, but now I am in the market!
I found a 1999 White 996 C2 with 31K miles. It has grey interior, 18" aftermarket wheels, lowering springs, stereo system, head unit, and full aero kit (inc. spoiler). I just did a PPI on the car and the mechanic says that the cam cover is wet (no leak), airbag light is on, and the 30K service has not been completed yet. No signs of accidents, repaint, or RMS. 2 owners. Clean title, clean carfax. Owner tells me that it was previously owned by an employee at porsche, so its been serviced at the dealership the entire time.
Porsche mechanic said he probably just needs to clear the code for the airbag (apparently I searched renntech and it is a common problem that just needs to be reset). Camcover had liquid on it - no serious mechanical problems.
I talked the owner down to $30K. I plan to travel about 300 miles to pick it up also.
Similar car with 24K miles but with cf interior going for $39K. Aero kit cars with this mileage are around high $30s. Higher mileage, Mid-30s.
Only drawbacks are: orange tail lights, orange non-litronics/xenon headlights. I can change those but it will probably run me abour $1500 for everything. And about $600 if I do all the 30K maintenance myself ($1300 dealership).
Trying to decide between this and a well cared for 99 black/black aero for $32K with 72k miles with some basic mods. Its about 2400 miles away (needs to be shipped) so add $1200 to that price. $33,200.
Just wanted my valued rennlister's opinions! Hope to join you guys soon!
screameleons : are those iforged monacos? In anthracite? Those are exactly what I was planning to put on it, but I was debating between black with polished lip or anthracite (grey).
and the mods began. seriously, that's two aeros for silly money. You shouldn't even be debating but put a deposit down on the car now. Aeros go for way more around here..................
White looks awsome on a Porsche and even more so with gray interior. Keep in mind the amber/red tail lights were the mark of an EARLY '99 and they had a few issues that were later corrected that same year. Perhaps someone could give you more info on the specifics. I have a late '99 and am very happy with it. Just thought you might like to know sooner than later.Good Luck.
As a price comparison, I just purchased my 99 with LSD, M030, Full Leather with 48K on the clock for $29K. It already had the urdated rear tail lights.
I purchased factory front aero bumper, side skirts and the rear spats for $1,600. All new, never painted.
The deals are out there...you just have to be ready to pounce with cash.
If I were looking for a used 996 and found an outstanding example for sale, I wouldn't care if it had the original orange turn signals. The mechanical condition of the car trumps the cosmetic stuff.
One last thought - there are those who like their cars to be as they came from the factory (there are legions of Porsche owners who feel this way). To them, this means orange turn signals instead of the clear ones that came later.
Good luck in your search!
Ben, my friend just traded his M3 in on the Gallardo and they gave him $23k for it. So, stop thinking you've avoided depreciation. The M3 is worth less than the 996 especially when looking at aeros. And it's not an aero if it's not a full aero. The taco is the most expensive part!@!!!!
His was an '03 with 67k miles. Silver. It was quick, but not as quick as my car in any situation. I absolutely walked away from him on the Highway...............
I know what you mean. I was trying to decide between a 996, nsx, and m3. I drove the m3 and thought it was a nice daily, fast and smooth but just didn't feel sporty enough for me. My last car was a highly modified evo8 so I'm used to feeling agile and the 996 felt much lighter and sporty than the m3. Not that the m3 isnt a great car, but several times in my area I have seen 50 year old women driving them and I see them daily - its a very common car (her license plate said: M3MOM). I've always liked porsches the day I first drove my friends. I plan to track the car as well as daily drive it. 2 more days until I pick it up!
It's powerful and I actually like the "clownshoe" looks. However, it's a bit crude when it comes to handling and not even in the GT3's performance universe.
It's more of a German Cobra.
that's a good one Ray! Actually I like the look of the Z3 based M Coupe and as I already had a Z3 2.8 Roadster which I loved and the M Coupe is pretty rare (I thought they sold less 7k worldwide), I consider to buy one as a collection item (just need to convince my wife that I need a second toy). Prices are fair and the cars are solid built.
I think the old M Coupe (Z3 based) w/the 315 hp motor is a little crude. However, it looks great (kinda mean) and will probably be worth something someday (they didn't make very many).
I tried to buy one a few years ago, but they are hard to find.
I think that mine would be a good deal....All maintenance and updates taken care of. Ex-mechanic, and plenty of mods...
Not to mention that 99 is the best year for a carrera!
