I can say on my other cars when the drain tube would back up, I would get my ait compressor with a fine point blower and clean out the tubes using low pressure.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thought about posting in "concours" but this seemed more general. Washed the car yesterday on a slight uphill to the garage. Used LOTS of water, it had a good coating of salt. Was drying it very thoroughly because it's going to sit for a while. While I had the hood up and drying under it and around the seals I looked down into the area of the battery. There was a lot of water just below the battery tray area on a flat shelf section. Further investigation led to discovering two drains with black rubber seals on them on this "shelf" on the right side of the battery and at least one on the left side. One was completely clogged, freeing it led to all the water draining out. Not sure if this area would drain on a flat driveway or not but it does seem like a place a lot of moisture can get trapped if even one of these drains is clogged. You might want to check this out to ward off corrosion. Now for a question. After washing it seems I always get water draining inside the door jambs. I always open the doors and wipe the area dry but then if I come back to the door sill later it's wet again. Yesterday I kind of studied this for a while and it looks as though water is draining from the "B" pillar area up where the windows meet the sheet metal, right at the B pillar. Could this be a small drain location for the sunroof or is water simply draining out from the seals around the front part of the rear side windows in running down inside the door?

POST 2Original post

When drying the door sills, be sure to also dry all of the underside of the doors themselves as well, otherwise when you close the doors up, the sills get wet again! You need to dry from the inside and outside of the door, underneath, to catch all the moisture. Battery area drainage is a known issue - blocked drains lead to rotted battery tray area on 996 and 986

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I do dry all areas of the door. That's why the continuing wetness of the sills has me mystified. If there isn't some other source like a drain for the sunroof than I can only assume closing the doors and thus squeezing the seals must be the cause. It sure seems to continue for some time though. Thanks.

CTO3911 - Here is a link to a post which shows all of the "drain tubes" on a Coupe. Hope this helps! https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost...11&postcount=5

POST 5Original post

CTO, I am not sure of the 996 as I have not had this dilemma yet. I can say on my other cars when the drain tube would back up, I would get my ait compressor with a fine point blower and clean out the tubes using low pressure. Usually I would blow out substance that collected in there throughout the years.

Thanks Gotta911. That was a great link.

POST 7Original post

I checked mine and 3 of the 4 were plugged with maple tree seeds, I don't even have maple trees, must a been the previous owner!! and I though the care was really well taken care of.
