Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Apparently these three come together when the original owner checked option "P72"--Traction Control.
Leading evidence: 'Check option "p72"--traction control' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check option "p72"--traction control' (1 discussions). Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Details: Purchase one week ago from my new boss. 1999. C2. Lowered (a bit too much for my taste) with Eibach suspension when new. Also added Techart exhaust and tips. Techart pedals. OEM side skirts (I hope.) Partial carbon fiber trim kit. 18" twist wheels (non-hollow spoke.) New Contis. Carerra aluminum door sills. Matte black Carerra script on deck lid. Rockford power amp and subwoofer on deck behind rear jump seats. PO claims brain remapped to 326 hp with exhaust and tuning. Unverified. Here are the option codes:
CO2 -- Cats
220 -- Locking Diff
222 -- Unknown
224 -- Active Brake Diff
446 -- Colored Wheel caps
I am hoping the 220 and 224 means I have the LSD option since it's a 1999 but I'm not sure if that's the right code. Anyone know what 222 is?
Only 29,xxx miles.
PO claims car was bought in Miami in 1998 and immediately delivered to tuner for all upgrades. If interested in price... I got if for low trade-in value on KBB.COM. That's only because I work for the PO and I took the car in lieu of salary. A more real price would be $32,500 as that's what he's saving in comp to me.
I would like to lose all the amber glass on the front end. I'd consider a turbo bumber, but I am hesitant since I like to be true to original and that would not be the case. Maybe finish out the aero front and back -- but no wing.
I sold my 1995 black on black C4 to a good home in CT and was now able to get back in a p-car (had to sell the other one when I went into commission sales job.) NewB to the 996 forum.
First week impressions are that the 996 has the same authentic feel as the 993. Miss the round headlights. I am scared silly from all the posts on here about the 1999 issues.
One interesting item on past repair. "Upon inspection found o rings leaking from seal tube. R&R sparkplug tubes, replace seal rings." This sounds like an oil leak and I can see evidence of one on the engine bottom protection plate. Can anyone explain what this fix might be?
No other interesting repairs. Did not have a PPI since my boss will "make it right" if needed in the next few months. Will go to my old independent -- Dave White Motorsports in Tampa for a PPI -- Post purchase inspection.
Looking forward to my first DE in the new car in May at Sebring.
Thanks for your comments.
Congrats.... nice ride..... and good job.... you did the right thing by posting and including some pics of your beauty....unlike some p car owners here........like me.......
From what I've read here on this forum, "220" indeed is the mechanical locking differential (AKA limited slip diff); "222" is the anti-slip regulation, and "224" is the active brake differential. Apparently these three come together when the original owner checked option "P72"--Traction Control. Basically if your MY 99 996 has traction control, it will have all three of the above options working together as a system. What's lovely about the MY 99s with TC is that the "222" and "224" are defeatable, leaving only the mechanical locking diff--which is perfect for DE track junkies (like you will be soon). Great find on the car; it lacks frivolous options. Enjoy!

Those are the spark plug tubes leak oil. A common problem for the 996. It may just be the one side leaking. However I recommond doing both sides. Not a serious problem but I would take care of it.

Jack,
That's a beautiful car and it sounds like you got a smokin' deal. Congratulations and enjoy. Be prepared for a few inane comments by some socially retarded 997 and 993 owners. Screw 'em, you have a great car, so drive it like you stole it.
