Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

There are no patents covering OBD2 so all the auto manufacturers use non-standard protocols and pin configurations (new porsches use dual k-lines & CAN) to interface with everything that isn't emissions related.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone tried this OBD II unit from HF? ITEM 94217-1VGA Looks like a steal at $99 but you never know with HF.... http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=94217

POST 2Original post

never tried it... i usually go to autozone and borrow theirs......but let us know....

POST 3Original post

What do you want it to do? That one looks very limited...check out/compare to durametric.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the heads-up - looks interesting. http://www.durametric.com/default.aspx I like the Porsche specific software, but I also have other non-Porsche vehicles to account for, hence the lowest common denominator of OBD II hand-held

POST 5Original post

Durametric is the next best thing to an actual PST2 or PIWIS.

POST 6Original post

That one will probably be fine to read a code and erase it. Thats what all the cheapo ones do. Saves you a trip to the dealer for a diagnosis.

POST 7Original post

Sorry, but there is no indication this will be able to read or decipher Porsche code. I wouldn't bet on it.

POST 8Original post

Why wouldn't it? Isn't that what having a standard is all about?

POST 9Original post

Standards exist so that companies can extract licensing fees from other companies. There are no patents covering OBD2 so all the auto manufacturers use non-standard protocols and pin configurations (new porsches use dual k-lines & CAN) to interface with everything that isn't emissions related. The EPA only requires that the ECU return (powertrain) p-codes related to emission failures (the rules were amended in 2001 to include anything that causes a MIL/CEL) so in addition to the ECU's not returning all the codes there are also some readers that will only display the generic and not the "enhanced" manufacturer specific codes.
