Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If I do the swap in the future I will have to change my name from tippy to manny.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is the tiptronic and manual ECUs different? Why I ask is I plan on swapping the tip out for a manual someday. I know the tip has its on control module and obviously it gets info from the ECU so if I disable it will it interfere with the ECU?
Another topic is would you trust a full swap of parts from LA dismantlers of tranny, diff, axles, flywheels (flexplate), console, shifter, pedal assy one for one? Or is this playing with fire?
If I do the swap in the future I will have to change my name from tippy to manny.
likely on your own.
In modern cars, read OBD2 cars, and the newer the worse it can be, you're better off selling the car and finding one equipped like you like.
That is, selling your Tip-equipped car and finding a comparable manual-equipped car. The Tip and engine controller work hand in hand and I'm not sure how you're going to tell the engine controller the Tip's gone and a manual's in its place. Might be as simple as not connecting a wiring harness connector to a non-existent connector that's on the outgoing Tip, but it maybe quite a bit more complicated than that.
You might get lucky and find someone's who's as anxious to move from a manual to a Tip as you are to go the other way.
Swapping a known setup for something unknown, especially given the complexity of what you're swapping is playing with fire wearing flammable underwear.
You have to remove everything that makes your car go -- essentially -- and hand it over to someone that in turn gives you everything that made another and different (Tip vs. manual) car go, and hope you can adapt this different hardware to your car.
As I touched upon above, unless someone's gone this route, I think you're on your own, and need I add taking a big risk...
Sincerely,
Macster.
I have done this swap in many other cars Ive owned and it doesnt seem any different than other cars. I just needed to know if the ECU and coolant lines differ between the cars. I dont want to get rid of my car because the 3.8% interest and the $15K less than other comparable 996s at the time I bought it. If someone can give me info on these 2 things, there will be a nice write up on the swap with pics in the future.
well......... heres the basics
you will need
clutch
flywheel
slave
master
pedal assy
lines from master----slave
tranny mount
axle shafts
you will need to bypass the coolant lines for the trans cooler
make a harnes for the rerse light switch
you can reflash the dme to think its a manual. but i think the dmes are still diffrent part numbers
But I think you may still have issues becasue the instermenct cluster is going to look for the transmisison to see what gear its in. so you may have constant failure warnings.
Im not really sure though. if ihave some fre time at work ill flash a car over and see what it does
You are concerned over the $15K and 3.8%, well think of this the conversion labor alone will cost you about 5K let alone the cost of the extra parts. That and the headache in doing so its not worth it. Also the resale value of your car will dip, in the long run you'll likely to loose the money you think that you are saving and you'll have your car inop for a good amount of time. It best to buy a manual car.
LA DISMANTLERS SUCKS ***. THEY ARE THIEVES!!! FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE. Read through here and you will find many with the same experience. They are complete crooks. Do not give these fools your Credit Card information..................... ugh.
