New Alpine installed, now horn beeps when I lock the car

I had my CCR-220 replaced with an Alpine 9857. Now when I lock the car the lights flash twice and the horn beeps. I have checked to make sure the center consol and glove box are fully closed. Does replacing the radio mess up the alarm somehow? Any ideas?

There is little swtich/wire in the radio compartment that you need to tape up. Basically, when you pulled out the old radio the switch got tripped and now the car thinks the radio has been stolen. Look for a green wire that is connected to a male terminal and metal tab on the left side of the radio compartment opening. Unplug this wire and tape it up and that should take care of the horn beep. You need to do this unless you plug in another factory or Becker unit. How do you like the 9857? I am thinking of upgrading headunits when I get my subwoofers installed. I'm also switching from XM to Sirius. -G

I want the beeps. Any way to do this on purpose? I am always double checking the doors to see if it locked. I would love a little toot to confirm that the remote worked.

Cool, thanks. You would think the installer would have known that. With this switch tripped, is the proximity sensor disabled like disabling the center console switch does? Guess I could test that, just role down the windows, lock the car, and then stick my arms in.

I believe the beep is telling you that there is a break in the circuit and that the security system has been disabled. I don't think you want the beep.

You will also get MANY false alarms.....after maybe 30 minutes, it'll just go off.....I did this after I installed my stereo...there is a spade plug on the left side of the dash where the stereo is installed, if its unplugged, it happens....simply put that back...

Hum, four days now and no false alarms that I know of. I do not lock my car in the garage though.

The system isn't disabled - it will still alarm if you put your arm through an open window. I replaced my CDR-220 with an Alpine unit (one year ago) and I get the beep also.

Do you still have the CDR-220? Are you interested in selling it? (Mine is not working 100%, so would like to get a spare).

I got my car back from my indie about a month ago after a (non radio) mod and the remote didn't work. I opened the key, took the battery out, put it back; that's when the beeping started. No false alarms and still a proper working alarm system here.

Main reason for the swap was so I could have iPod hookup and control. The Alpine unit is very nice - just wish you could switch the illumination to orange to match the dash. The blue of the Alpine looks a little out of place. But the display is one of the easiest to read of any unit I have had.

I believe you can change the illumination. I have a 9855 and I changed the backlighting for the buttons to amber. The display (bioluminescent) is still white though.

I have a 9847 with the KCA-420 adapter for Ipod and I can change the display color also.

I have had the 9857 since the beginning of summer. The fullspeed ipod connection is worth it alone. The only thing I would change with this unit is the way you scroll through the songs, artists, and playlists, three at a time can get a little tedious.

Try scrolling through the songs using the "touch strip" controller in the 9855! I need to upgrade to the 9857! The 9855's "touch strip" seemed like a good idea at the time.

Congratulations on your purchase, Alpine is great! I am interested in upgrading, the stock sysytem is really just average. Did you upgrade your power/speakers? I am interested in upgrading for play it loud sound, hardwire SAT(the FM transmitter method is to "AM." ) Also, would like to integrate my cell with bluetooth. Let me know how you like it. I thought the same thing but I have dug through the manual and can't find anything other than how to dim the illumination. On another note, the car has been locked and alarmed for three days now without a single false alarm. Weird how some have a problem with this and others don't. I guess just chock it up to the normal German electrical gremlins.

just got the 9856 alpine.....beautiful machine..... swithed out my speakers to focals 165 V3 3-ways and a sub..... too damn amazing over stock. the ipod function itself rocks, and the music has never sound better..... i will pos up pics and all soon..... just like to say thanks to south coast sounds in huntington beach... totally hooks me up.....(no affiliation with them)
