Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

And my 1st post!
Hey all,
I bought my Porsche about 5 months ago ('99 C2 Cab, 38k miles, 6spd) and I love it, best car I have ever owned/driven.
I got it CPO w/2 year warranty etc. Within the 1st 2 months I got the good old coolant tank crack happened ( not warrantyd ) that I have read about and while there were doing the repairs the found out the oil & antifreeze were mixing somehow. So I got a brand new engine put in, which is nice to get, but didn't instill much confidence in me about the durability of the car.
Finally, heres my questions.
1) Is a 996 a durable car? Or did I just happen to get a bad apple?
2) I like to drive fast and hard, Can you drive the car too hard?
3) Its also my 1st manual (yea I know) and sometimes I will bring the car around 2k RPM's while starting in 1st, is that burning the clutch out?
I just don't want to hurt my new baby, but I also don't want to let it go to waste.
Any advice would surely help this 1st time owner.
Thanks all!

1) Yes, the 996 is a durable car......38,000 miles 0n a 99, maybe it just was
never driven enough....who knows
2) "You" probably can't drive the car too hard....
3) Who knows......how long is a string?
I love my 99 & it now has ~75,000 miles on it.....I have replaced the coolant tank,
no RMS ever (far as I know) & sometimes get around 1600-2000 RPM taking off
as well. I drive the car like it was designed to be driven & hit redline several times
everytime I drive it (always after totally warmed up, though).
Have fun & drive the dang car........!!
The 911 is pretty bulletproof so I don't think if you drive agressively you're hurting the car too much. However, everything in moderation may also play here. Beating on her 24/7 probably isn't a good idea.
In terms of the clutch issue, if once in a while you're releasing it at 2K, it's ok for the time being. As you get more comfortable driving stick, you're probably engage ~ 1200 RPM.
Coolant tank, seat belt sensors, RMS and a short list of other things are issues with the 996. Have fun, drive as much as you can, DE's and AX's included and check this great forum often for support of the P-car addiction.
Goosey - you had a type of engine failure that would appear to be more prevalent in earlier 996s.
The intermix issue has been well documented, and admitted 'off the record' by Porsche techs.
Your new (rebuilt) engine should not suffer from the same manufacturing issues, so you can rest easy.
You were a victim of an early model car, which still had quality control issues in it's manufacturing - now you're back up and running, drive it like you stole it and you'll be fine.
if you burn out the clutch, replace it, if you have rms, redo it.... nothing is out of the specs of fixing..... as long as your car is under warr.... you're good to go..... drive the car and drive it hard......enjoy it, then buy the 997 after.....
Thanks for all the help guys.
I appreciate you'll taking the time to answer my newbie questions, all but the 'instant flame' post was great advice.
