Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

During the preowned process they replaced RMS, i saw it under lift and it was not wet but I am getting the impression they do it as preventive.
Leading evidence: 'Replace rms, i saw it' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace rms, i saw it' (1 discussions). Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Put the deposit down yesterday, trading in my 2001 C2 for a 2003 C2 (CPO).
Stats:
2003 996 Carrera 2
12K miles
Basalt black with graphite gray interior (new alum tequipment shifter and handbrake)
PSM
PSE
Bose
CD Changer
Xenon
Electric seats
18" carrera lt weights
Porsche crest in headrest(always wanted this)
New snow tires (blizzak LM-25s) and new Michelin PS2s
Totally pumped... Amazing car, much tighter then my 2001, but then again it has 82K miles on it. Also the low end torque is amazing.
Few observations:
1) Basalt black is an stunning color - was going to go lapis blue (a la Tims car) but basalt black is really amazing, all the beauty of black with little headache - plus it looks like sweet in the sun.
2) PSE.... now I know why this is such a coveted option.... sound AMAZING. I will never own another 911 without it.
3) BOSE is a LOT better than the standard stereo, but with PSE whats the point?
4) Clutch is harder to use in this car.... in my 01 I found I barely need to give it gas at the point of engagement. In the 03, you need to gas it >1.2K RPM other wise it seems to shudder/slip a little. The clutch pulls fine at 6800rpm in 2nd/3rd... head guy drove it and said it is fine, just some getting used to.
First car I have ever owned with so little miles, i'll be at 80K in no time. During the preowned process they replaced RMS, i saw it under lift and it was not wet but I am getting the impression they do it as preventive.
Pictures to follow on saturday. ...
Congratulation! Looks like you found a great car with the right options... I would like to upgrade my stock exhaust to PSE as well, but I need to start saving $$$ now
Enjoy...
Cheers,
PL: Moving to NJ at end of february - totally pumped about NNJR - going to go to the DE education event on Feb 11... to learn about their DEs.. The NY PCA I find is rather lackluster to sucks.
In fact a big reason my wife and I are moving out is to do DE events - we were always hesitant with living in NYC and only having one car... too risky! Do you do a lot of DE?
i signed up for 2/11 Mid-Winter Track Event as well.
i haven't done any DE last year. with 2 babies at home, it's hard to escape the house for 2 days!
see you on 2/11
Congrats - I love basalt black. Did you consider selling yours to a private party before trading in? Can I ask what kind of deal you worked out with the dealer?
I want to upgrade my 01 C4 on an 02+ C4S.
Good luck with it.
Sounds like a great trade up to me- I like the Basalt as I think that its the new "black metallic"- that is what color mine is and it is just nice that it is a little different than the straight black that my boxster was. I wish I had the headrest crests also- little thing but I did it- Hope you love it!
Yes and no - by selling it private party, I could of have gotten more for my car than the trade-in, but I wanted to do it quickly and easily. If you follow the market for 996s, which is dropping quickly especially for 3.4ls, i felt I could get a decent bid on my 01 (remember I have 80K+ miles) and the offer on used sports cars is very low during the dark winter months... As a result, I figured the spread was a little tighter than anytime of the year. While I didnt negotiate much on the "spread", I had the dealer throw in a lot of extras like brand new summers, brand new snows, and I paid the difference between the tequipment shifter/hand brake and the stock shifter/handbrake. PM me for numbers.
