Last week at 43K miles my clutch started to slip badly (this was surprising as I got 90K+ miles on my last 928 clutch, and 115K+ miles on a 76' 911S clutch, but then my wife also drives this one) so I took it to my Indy and also asked him to check the RMS as I had seen traces of oil on the bottom of the bell housing, but no drops on the floor.
Leading evidence: '"gold" version, covering more than the standard version' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '"gold" version, covering more than the standard version' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check rms as i had seen traces of oil' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The mechanic noted that it appeared the cam position sensors were leaking slightly, but suggested that we do this later as any claim over $1,000 requres an inspection and the EasyCare might not want to cover the R&R on the Trans if it was also being pulled to replace the clutch.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Turns out the RMS was seeping fairly badly as could bee seen with the trans out. He called EasyCare and they covered the RMS replacement without any questions. This covered the removal of the trans and flywheel, so the clutch only cost a little more than the parts.
small chance the oil got on the clutch. so small it doesnt really exsist. I have never seen nor heard of a rms leak gettin oil on the clutch on an m96 engine
shoudl have had them do the case bolts and the ims seal while they had the trans out
My Indy did look at the possibility that the clutch had oil on it, but it was dry. The EasyCare rep said it was very unusual for a RMS leak to be bad enough to get oil on the clutch and such a claim would certainly require an inspection. It was obvious that the RMS leak was not the problem with the clutch in this case. As to the IMS seal, there was no evidence of any leakage. I am a frim believer in the old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
2000 C4 Cab purschased from the dealer in august of 2000 with 4,000 miles. The car was originally sold in 2/00 so the factory warranty was expiring in 2/04. I bought the EasyCare warranty through the dealer in 1/04 with about 33,000 miles. As I said, I tried to do a CPO but they can't do it unless the dealer is reselling the car. The cost was about $2,500 with a $200 deductible. It was the "gold" version, covering more than the standard version. Prior to the RMS it had covered a few small things, but only to the tune of a few hundred dollars. They warranty covered about $600 this time after the deductible. My Indy only charges $99/hr. The local dealer is $149/hr., so if I had the work done there the warranty would have covers about $300 more. However, i was having other work done to (the clutch, etc. and did not want to pay $149/hr. for the other work. The mechanic noted that it appeared the cam position sensors were leaking slightly, but suggested that we do this later as any claim over $1,000 requres an inspection and the EasyCare might not want to cover the R&R on the Trans if it was also being pulled to replace the clutch.
Ironically, it is kind of a conflict for me now, do i hope for more work under the warranty so I get the full value of the cost of the warranty, or just hope the cr doesn't have any more problems. I believe it is better not to have furhter problems, but all cars wear and so I hope if there are any major problems they happen before the additional 4 years of coverage expire (in abount another 12 months). The mileage under the warranty can go to 75,000, but that would be another 30,000 in 12 months and that won't be the case.
