I have tried to attach the "cardex" that was run for the car that lists all the installed options (?).

PASM = Porsche Active Suspension Management which changes the dampening on the shocks for a firmer ride when it is engaged.

My car seems to be heavily optioned (good) and I had a dealer run a "cardex" with Porsche N.A.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As you point out, it didn't help the ride all that much.
Hello to All:
Just purchased a beautiful, low mileage 2002 996 C2. I don't want to open a can of worms, but I have done my homework diligently searching the archives for option info. My car seems to be heavily optioned (good) and I had a dealer run a "cardex" with Porsche N.A. listing all it's options. Most I know and have matched up,some are not on the trunklid card, some are not listed in either place. Maybe some of the stuff came in option groups. There is one thing it says is there that I don't seem to have:
P04: sport package 6-speed plus PASM
I'd love to have it,but I don't see any switches for PASM. If P04 is what it says it is,could I have it and not know it?
I don't want to bore anyone with a list of what matches, but this stands out in the "no gots".
P.S. It says it has 476- Porsche Stability Mgt. also.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,Duke
Duke:
Whoever told you that your 2002 996 has PASM lied to you... PASM is only available in 997s. Our cars come only with PSM wich is option code 476. You should have a button in your dash (next to the AirCon controls) that says PSM..
Duke - first of all welcome and congrats on getting a P-car!
As MechanicalEng said above ^ PASM and PSM are on the 997s. 996s only had PSM available. Just to clarify:
PSM = Porsche Stability Management (think traction control)
PASM = Porsche Active Suspension Management which changes the dampening on the shocks for a firmer ride when it is engaged. A 997 with PASM is 10mm lower than a 997 without PASM.
Here is a link to the Porsche web site. Click on "Safety" to learn more about PSM and then click on "Chassis" to see how PASM works. If you already knew about this stuff, well, just ignore the link.

Once again, Welcome! Please post a few pics of your new ride once you get past the minimum of 5 posts needed to post a pic.
Welcome duke!!! PSM is only really good as a safety feature, learn to drive your car well and you'd never need it anyhow. PASM on the other hand is a VERY cool feature, although not available on OUR cars. PSM on the AWD C4S is a waste of button-space.
Snap some pics and share the glory!!
Hey Guys,
Thanks for the welcome, this feels like home. I know my car does NOT have PASM,but what the hell does "P04-Sport Package 6 speed w/PASM" mean? I have tried to attach the "cardex" that was run for the car that lists all the installed options (?). Everything else seems to be there though. Do I have a "sport package"? They list PSM separately. Weird! What do you think?
Duke
Look at the sticker on the underside of the luggage compartment. It will list codes for the options on the car. Sometimes Porsche seems to have reused option codes. An option decoder, like
http://www.kindel.com/Porsche/options.asp
can help.
It shows Stereo With Compact Disc Changer (Targa/Cabriolet) for code P04.
What is on the sticker under the lid is what came from the factory. Period. If you have other things installed that are not listed, Aero kit for example, then they were installed by one of the previous owners.
NEED PICS!!!
Oh since you said that, I just don't get PASM. It allows suspension adjustment and faster throttle response. I always want more throttle response. Why a button?
As to the suspension, at least I understand this one, but I just don't get the need to change that either. It not like I am looking for or expecting a luxo ride - ever.
If I were you, I would be damn happy with what I have. I am, although I have been giving way too much thought to PSS9's lately. Oh no.
DCP:
I drove a new 2006 C2S with PASM and the settings are hard and harder! Really the "Sport" setting is really great, but could get old on a very bumpy road, the normal on a bad road was more comfortable, but not luxo. The better throttle response I really liked also. I agree,it should just be there all the time
welcome - great looking car.
interesting that one of the options is 498 - delete model designation - but you do have a Carrera script....hhmmmm.
should i be the first to suggest clear sidemarkers?
Duke - nice looking car! Thanks for sharing the pics. The silver/aluminum look bits in the interior really look good. The help break up the expanse of the all black interior. As they say... "You done good!"
Just a difference in impressions, I guess. I seriously considered a 997 base model before deciding I really couldn't afford it. On PASM, I thought that, while you can notice the difference, I just couldn't imagine why you would ever turn off the sports button. As you point out, it didn't help the ride all that much. I really don't care that much about ride quality in a sports car. Guess my 60's British sports car roots are showing.
