I used DupliColor Caliper paint (brush on paint), PORSCHE decals from Xenonmods.com, and followed that up with clear DupliColor Engine Enamel spray, mostly to help seal the decals and protect them.

Seems like the nature of the epoxy that's used smooths up as it drys.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've read a lot of your guys posts about the DIY caliper paint. The stupid peeling clear coat on my calipers is the one thing that's really driving me nuts. However, I'm really hesitant to repaint my calipers. The factory finish is so smooth that I can't imagine getting the same result with a brush. Am I wrong? Could someone possibly post a pic of their caliper that captures how smooth the final finish is. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

POST 2Original post

Yes, the brush that come with the caliper refinish kits do results in a smooth finish. Seems like the nature of the epoxy that's used smooths up as it drys. See the attached pic of my DIY caliperjob on my 993 during and after.

POST 3Original post

What about removing the calipers and then sanding & spraying with VHT Caliper red and clear coat ? The result is better than what you'll get with brushing but the process involves a little more labor.

POST 4Original post

I used DupliColor Caliper paint (brush on paint), PORSCHE decals from Xenonmods.com, and followed that up with clear DupliColor Engine Enamel spray, mostly to help seal the decals and protect them. The clear spray also gives a little more shine to the calipers. I bought a cheap ($1.00) natural bristle brush at Sears. That helped the paint go on more evenly, but like Slaaw said above, the caliper paint WILL smooth out a lot once it starts to dry. Make sure you spend 2 minutes covering your par with a drop cloth of some kind (the cheap disposable plastic drop cloths will do nicely) because over spray will settle on EVERYTHING in the garage. I found this out when I re-painted the top hats on my car (BTW, that will be your next mod ). Here is a link to my post from last February about the DIY process. There are a lot of caliper pics beside mine, because others guys re-painted the calipers after reading my thread and posted pics of their results. I have also added a couple of pics below. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ght=duplicolor Here is the link to my thread for re-painting the top hats. Make sure you read Part 2 of the thread (which begins on post #21) which has some in process pics and a few more DIY tips. The last pic in THIS post shows the wheels after I re-painted the calipers and the top hats. Like I said earlier, if the caliper paint bothers you, then the top hat paint will eventually bother you also.
