Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Seriously So all of a sudden, the car refuses to lock via remote. It's getting the signal just fine - the dashboard red lights illuminate just as they should (heck, they seem brighter than normal). But nothing happens. When I lock it manually, the red light on the dashboard goes on (to indicate it's locked, though it doesn't normally do that) and the radio and dashboard actually stay on for several minutes. Same thing with unlocking. Signal fine, nothing. The lock button on the dashboard works fine from inside the car. Anyone seen this before? Justin

POST 2Original post

Try popping the key fob battery for a few seconds, then popping it back in. That sometimes refreshes the remote locking function.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update/bump: It seems holding the key in the unlock position lowers the windows (as it should), but holding it in the lock position does nothing (instead of raising them). I also tried the "lock fast three times manually" thing, just in case. Still nothing. Also: I don't really remember the red light on the top of the dash (that the remote illuminates) being so insanely bright. It looks like three or four lights instead of one or two now... cdodkin - I left the battery out for a few minutes before putting it back in, still no joy

POST 4Original post

Try locking manually, and hit the lock/unlock button on the key when the key is fully turned to the lock position.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Go figure. It started working again tonight. For the record, I wonder if the FM tower right next to my parents' house had a role to play in all of this. It started yesterday when I was there for the first time in awhile, and stopped today when I was there for the first time since. How very odd. Thanks for all the helpful tips! Justin

Do you find anything glowing while you are round at your folks place?

POST 7Original post

I feel you pain! I actually had a bird fly into my garage so it could cr@p on my clean car! Damn thing wouldn't leave after that - I was chasing it around with a broom.

POST 8Original post

LMAO....sorry, that's just funny. Had a little tree frog get into my kitchen last summer when I took the trash out. Chased the little S.O.B. all around the downstairs of my house. Finally got him to leave with the trash can lid. "Batted" him out the door...

POST 9Original post

my remote function failed too and i had to get a new one from dealer. it came out to 250 including a programming of 1 hr labor charge. i tried the battery reverse and it didn't do anything.
