Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

36 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

The hole process was worth it after blowing money on tip that didn't work for me.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What do you think???? I had ordered these tips and they were supposed to be chrome. But there was a screw up and they came black.

POST 5Original post

Not bad, I've been thinking about getting mine painted matte black, tired of clean the chrome surface on the original...

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Lux Wheels and Accessories I spoke with them today and ask about the tips being black. He stated that they don't come in black andthat there must of been a screw up in manufacturing The Tips are from Schnell dual exhaust tips for 1998-2001 996's He was going to ship me out the correct ones and have UPS pick up the black ones

POST 7Original post

I kind of like the black with the black bumperets.

POST 10Original post

they look great on the silver car - get them to credit you a hundred bucks and get painted bumperettes from Eric. keep them regardless imo.

POST 11Original post

I like them in black better.... nice looking.

POST 13Original post

I think it completes the rear color scheme with the black bumperettes and the black license plate... -Keith

POST 18Original post

I think you should go with Chrome since chrome would bring the Carrera4 emblem, clear wing light, etc.. together. Have the bumperettes painted instead. Now for my C2, I think it would look great with my Carrera emblem and Black paint color.

POST 19Original post

I thought Delaware was the only state with black license plates.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

http://www.luxwheelsandaccessories.com/ So I'm not that good at photoshop

POST 21Original post

Boy, that's the understatement of the week! J/K!

POST 22Original post

evansaero, any idea how much the tips weigh in comparison w/the stock tips? Did you end up keeping the black ones?

POST 23Original post

I think they would look good with black wheels. But I will agree, go chrome.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I would say the tips don't weigh anymore than the stock tips. I did go back to the stock tips and painted them black. I really do like the look of the black tips.IMO Not a fan of chrome wheels and same goes for tips. Just not a big fan of chrome. I removed the Schnell tips as there was not a good seal and when I let off the gas I got an exhaust note that sounded like a 4 banging rice burner. Lost $300 on that deal.

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Agree w/ the black wheels. That would look sick

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If you what the duel tips I will give them to you for free, just pay for the shipping, but there is one catch... You will have to become a paying member of rennlist. Let me know

POST 27Original post

What kind of prep and type of paint did you use on the tips? I am thinkng black tips would look good on my TT or at least better then the sort of golden hued chrome I have on there now!

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My old ones were in bad shape. So I use a dremel to remove all the rust and corrosion from the tips. Then I used the dremel to rough up the surface, then primed (make sure all coats are very light), then use high performance enamel spray paint (couple coats). It has held up very well. The paint has not chipped or flaked. The hole process was worth it after blowing money on tip that didn't work for me.

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tell you what if auto-xr does not take me up on my offer I will give them to you for free + shipping being that you are a paying member. I don't want to take one's money for tips that might have a defect.

POST 32Original post

i like them,,,, but i think the chrome would be nicer,,,,

POST 33Original post

If anyone is interested in a good DIY coating for their tips, http://www.brownells.com has a product called GunKote that is tough as nails once it is applied and baked on. I've used it many times. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/sto...aspx?p=1150&s=

POST 34Original post

evansaero, I'll take you up on the offer for the tips. I just paid for membership, but I don't think I have a member number yet. I think I should have one emailed to me within I day. Can you PM me with the shipping cost?

POST 35Original post

As long as they're making all the right sounds either colour will look...and sound great! Although, black tips with black wheels and a dark tint would look pretty menacing!
