I was also planning on having my 03 cab shipped from NH to Kansas City but someone suggested driving it back and it was the best advice I've had in along time.

Items I am working on are a carbon fiber shifter, (when I find on I like), interior carbon fiber panels , and new wheels although I do like the ease of cleaning the turbo wheels.

As it stands I have made a few modifications to include a CAI, replaced the stock headlights with siliverstars, and upgraded the stereo.

Actually I am flying out to texas next week to inspect the car and finalize the deal before it is shipped home.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Wanted to introduce myself. I just became a forum member and new 996 cabrio owner. Actually I am flying out to texas next week to inspect the car and finalize the deal before it is shipped home. The car is a 2001 Lapis carbiolet with 20k miles on it. It looks flawless and if everything goes well I will have pictures posted very soon. The car will be primarily used as a weekend car.
I must say that after reading through several topics I feel that I have already deepened my knowlege which has further increased my excitment. In fact I cannot wait to start enhance the car some. I am open for suggestions.
I was thinking to:
Change to Xenon lights althought I have questions on what is best. There seems to be several options.
I am also planning to change the Rim/tires to 19's.
Debating If it is worth changing the air intake to something like K&N or EVO. Are the horsepower gains promised by these kits actual?
Well it took a while but I finally got some pictures to post. I will make sure to take better ones in the future. As it stands I have made a few modifications to include a CAI, replaced the stock headlights with siliverstars, and upgraded the stereo. Items I am working on are a carbon fiber shifter, (when I find on I like), interior carbon fiber panels , and new wheels although I do like the ease of cleaning the turbo wheels.
I have become a P-car raving fan and already started planning on my next one.. may be a GT2..
Welcome and a big fat NO to hp gains from the manufacturers. It would take CAI, headers and full exhaust with a new map for the computer to get any decent gains. Porsche charges I believe $10,000 for a 25hp gain (teqequipment) so I wouldnt expect much even with all those mods done I listed.

No biggie, just thought you might like to know.......
Where are you buying the car from? Have you had it PPI'd? If it's in the Dallas/FWorth area, here is a great company that will, go TO the site, give the car a full 120-point inspection and give you the results by giving every point a 1-5 rating.
DO NOT BUY FROM Global Motorcars in Houston!
Thanks for the information. What is the name of that company? The car near Houston, fortunately it not from the organization you listed.
Have you heard of Expo auto?
Sal,
Congrats and welcome. Once you get the car be sure to post pics.
I agree, don't expect 25hp from intake. At not least on planet earth anyway. I questioned the service manager of a Porsche dealership about the hp gains from the evo v-flow kit and their chip package (he installs evo superchargers). He said the filter & chip are a lot of money for not much horsepower.

Welcome, I am a newer member also and I want to pass along some advice someone gave me which turned out to be great. I was also planning on having my 03 cab shipped from NH to Kansas City but someone suggested driving it back and it was the best advice I've had in along time. I took a week off work, and my wife and I flew out and picked up the car and spent a week driving it around New England before coming back home. We had a ball. The weather was great (nice enough for top down) and the roads and scenery were beautiful. I dont know when I have had so much fun. When you get your car you will want to drive it so I would highly recommend driving it home if that is an option. It worked out great for us! Congratulations

Thanks, I live fairly close the collection and yes the collection continues to expand and impress.
Thanks for the advise and I will most certainly post some pics.
The dealer just called asking about extended warranty (bumper to bumper)?? it is about 3k do you think it is worth it?
Expo is a higher end used car dealer here in Houston. I have been to its showroom once to look at a 996, but I elected to buy elsewhere. I don't really know too much about Expo, but they have been in business for several years.
Bottom line is get a PPI
Welcome to the club. Kinda new myself, so I don't have my special helper hat yet, but there is one question you asked that I can comment on: the headlights. For pre-02 cars, Porsche sells a Litronic conversion kit for pretty reasonable money. I don't know whether it's better or worse than the aftermarket stuff, but I went this route and am not sorry. They fit, they work, they're OEM, and they freshened the look of the car up very nicely, especially with the clear turn signal thingies.
Have fun!
Sal - Welcome to Rennlist. Make sure you get a PPI on the car. The air intakes will give you a louder sound but not much additional HP, if any. IMO, not worth the $$. On the wheels, make sure you get the correct offsets for both front and rear. If you are not familiar with Porsche wheel offsets, ask for some help here and we can make sure you avoid buying wheels with the wrong offset. Good luck with the car.
Welcome and congrats - assuming you finalize the sale. Xenon conversion is great but is expensive! Good luck and post pics when you have her home.

Congrats on your New Baby..... Just got mine 2 days ago here in OC. I agree.... PPI is worth every penny.... and then some... my PPI place told me over $3000 needed to be put into the car, and the dealer agreed to take care of all the issues........ ie header was touching the engine, so they had to dipple it out, clutch felt a little loose, so they gave me a new clutch, and a free 60K tune-up on top of it.... so it's well worth it when it comes to negotiating a better deal....
In regards to POWER...... does anyone know how i can obtain a GIAC chip and Cargraphic high flow cheap? and are these upgrades worth it? Would r4eally appreciate any info......Thanks
oh btw, 99 996 cab, artic silver..... pics will be posted soon.......
Actually it is speed yellow, but the picture was taken with a cell phone. I was too proud of my clay/wax job to wait for the digital camera (wifey 1.0 had it) and had to snap a shot. As soon as I get some updated photos I'll post them (haven't posted any of the car and I'm relatively new).
