Suggestion
I've had my '88 in Park Place a couple of times over the years and ended up with some HUGE repair bills without anything actually being fixed.
Replace clutch, and they gave me a complimentary loaner

They were $800 cheaper than local dealer to replace the clutch, and they gave me a complimentary loaner.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

At Boardwalk, the mechanic came out and told me that a light noise in my steering is actually a common clock spring issue and fixed it for me even though I never reported it.
Just picked up my 03 from Ruf and these guys are great. They were $800 cheaper than local dealer to replace the clutch, and they gave me a complimentary loaner. Not only that, they found that the master slave cylinder was broken and tried to get it covered under my warranty. They definetely have my business for all non-warranty issues.
I just moved to Dallas (TX) area and thought about going there as well since I have heard good things from this Forum. But since I still have extended warranty, I decided to go to Boardwalk Porsche in Plano just in case they would find anything wrong, who knows right? I went in just for the required state inspection for an out-of-state car registration
Luckily they did not find anything wrong and my car was back on the road 1/2 hour later with a car wash, nice. But I am sure that Ruf team knows what they are doing...
Cheers,
I find Park Place to be very elitist and will not take my vehicle there. They were the ones that quoted me $1800 for a new clutch. They also told me that the squeeking my clutch was making was 'normal', and nothing could be done about it (Boardwalk fixed it). Then they proceeded to tell me that my vehicle, which was slightly pulling to the right when I was going straight, was completely normal because if I fell asleep at the wheel my car would veer off the road instead of going into oncoming traffic. NICE
I've had excellent service experiences with Ruf and Boardwalk. I haven't done a service at Park Place because they are the furthest away, but I have been always treated well when I have gone over there. The hardest difficulty for me is choosing who to do my service. Ruf is a little cheaper, but Boardwalk gives me a Boxster or Cayman with a manual as a service loaner and does a great job washing the car. I've had both Ruf and Boardwalk do race alignments and both do excellent jobs. At Boardwalk, the mechanic came out and told me that a light noise in my steering is actually a common clock spring issue and fixed it for me even though I never reported it. When I was over at Ruf, they opened my door to bring the car into the shop and heard a little squeek from the hitch. They lubricated both hinges as a courtesy without any request. As I said, it is always a tough decision.
Anyone bought a used 996 from Park Place? I'm considering using them to purchase my first Porsche and would like to know if I should consider elsewhere.
Park Place and Boardwalk... do you have dealerships called Mediterranean Avenue and Baltic Avenue as well? Although they are considered to be in the "low-rent" area of town, I find that if your establish a decent businesses there (e.g. a hotel or a car dealership) that you will make money.
BTW, I agree that RUF Autocentre is excellent. I have ordered parts from them (most recently a RUF RGT front bumper) and they are always very professional.
I've had my '88 in Park Place a couple of times over the years and ended up with some HUGE repair bills without anything actually being fixed. I live near their old location (Park Cities) so it seemed like a good idea. Boardwalk has great rep but they quoted me $500 for a valve adjustment back in 2000 which was higher than anyone in town and it's way too far North for me. Dallas Euro Car is really good and you can trust the owner Jim. He's been working on my cars since the late 80's when he was at Louden. Ruf does have a GREAT reputation but I never really thought of them for regular service but obviously they do that sort of thing.
This is very true. Hans was the service manager and Wayne was a senior salesman at Boardwalk before leaving as partners in Ruf Autocentre. There are still very close ties between the two. Ruf gets their factory parts from Boardwalk and Boardwalk sends customers to Ruf for modifications.
