Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I also let it retract all the way before pulling the belt but that didn't help.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, My passenger seatbelt catches when I pull it at normal speed (not jerking it), it will catch after I pull a few inches or so and if I release it and let it retract a bit, it will allow me to pull further but the same thing repeats after I pull a few more inches. It's as if the autotensioner is way too trigger happy and "thinks" there's a collision and hence locking the belt. It's not the chidseat self-retcheting mechanism that's locking the belt. It's the normal locking you will experience if you jerk the belt quickly except I did not jerk the belt. I also let it retract all the way before pulling the belt but that didn't help. If it's the autotensioner, is it an expensive item to replace? Damn, car is only one week out of the original warranty. BTW, mine is an '03 C2 if that matters. Thanks! - Ahsai

POST 2Original post

The belt and tensioner are a single unit. It may just need to be adjusted. This can mean some of the pieces on the outside of the tensioner need to be tweeked, or the unit may not be in the proper position. If these units are not at a prescribed vertical angle, then you will start having issues as you describe.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Bob. I have not opened it up yet but what can be adjusted on the tensioner (the reel)? Are those places for adjustment pretty obvious once I open it up? Thanks again. - Ahsai
