Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

What would you do? Option 1: Take uber low milage '88 Carrera into premier race engine builder and do top end rebuild to correct for possible premature valve guide wear and while in the motor, have installed the hot parts to make for a hot motor. (Lets say this costs $10K). Option 2: Sell 911 and buy uber low milage 2003-2004 996. Option 3: Sell 911 and buy new Cayman S. Again, what would you do?

POST 4Original post

#2 as well. No matter how much modding you do, the '88 will never have the chassis rigidity or aerodynamics of the later cars. No matter how much modding you do, the engine will never have the power band and good low end torque of the newer engines (especially '02+).

POST 7Original post

#3 I just got rid of my 99 996 and got a new cayman s the 996 was designed a decade ago and I wanted something fresh since I owned a boxster before my 996 if you need the back seats then #2 obviously I drove a 997 s and cayman s back to back and preferred the cayman, but its all down to individual taste

POST 8Original post

Is the car being used as a daily driver? Weekend only? Are you going to track the car? Do you need back seats? Storage? k

POST 12Original post

#2 is the way to go...or is that because I have to go #2???

POST 13Original post

You didn't give us enough facts on how you drive and where and how much. Nobody can give you useful information with so little facts. What I would do may not be what you would do if you had the same knowledge that I have. If you must know what I would do, then look below my car's picture below, but what has that to do with your needs and wants?

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Marv: I was asking what would you do. And it appears you would buy a 996 as you have a 996 GT3, which is exactly what I want to do myself. Now if only my loan officer would share in my enthusiasm... Beautiful car, sir. What are your impressions of the 996 GT3, if I may ask? What do you use the car for? Weekends in the hills or track? Any downsides to ownership that you can impart on me? I have an amazingly cherry, super low milage, '88 Carrera that is set up the way likely all those who like old Porsches would want their Porsche set up. But I continue to be wooed by the "new stuff". I always flirt with the idea of just buying a new one and saying goodbye to the compromises most porschephiles write off as character, myself included. I have a new BMW M car (M Roadster) in addition to my '88 but I fear that I'm a Porsche guy at heart. And so I ponder... H

Me: car with a GT-1 based block.....the TT in 2001 or 2002 vintage.

POST 16Original post

#2. But if possible, hold on to the '88 so you can fix it up later.
