My engine makes a tapping sound quite frequently. The dealer informed me that it is some type of a purge valve and it is operating correctly. This is a very rhythmic tapping that is related to engine speed, i.e., higher RPM = faster tapping. However, based on the frequency of the noise, I believe there is something wrong - as it's almost always making the tapping noise. Anyone have this issue? -td

yeal. the theory i heard is: there's air-leak somewhere in your emission system, which causes the purge valve over-working. after a while, the purge-valve will give up (maybe), then you need a new one. i am on my second one now,(the valve was bad, replaced, and relaced some vent line too. part: $277, labor: 282) have had it for 12 month/6k miles, it's tapping like crzay. maybe you can post a video/sound chip here? plus, it doesn't affect performance, just when it's gone bad, you will get a cel, P0446

I hear a clicking in what sounds like the passenger foot well, only when idle. I thought this was the purge valve. It clicks about every 10-30 seconds at idle, and i can hear it at all when running normally. Is this right >

Unplug the electric from the valve and if its the valve making the noise, it will be nice and quiet. This valve will always make noise, some are louder than others. Should not hear it from the cab.
