Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I subscribed to Carfax around Oct 1st for a unlimited amount of reports for 30 days I believe.. do I quialify or this only applies to people who got carfax for a whole year??
Thanks very much, 'gant. It does sort of burn me up that the only people making any money are the lawyers, but hey, they gotta eat too! And we might even have one or two on this forum...
It's silly, in that it doesn't really punish Carfax at all. Giving away free reports is basically a freebie for them. Of course, others might argue (and I might agree) that the entire thing was rather frivolous in the first place, so the fact that they do have to pay the court costs and lawyers and settlement administration fees is ridiculous.
It reminds me of that GM class action against their trucks. The settlement was that any affected owners got a discount on a new truck. Oh wow. "Hey, we're sorry the car burst into flames and killed your family, but hey, buy another Silverado and we'll knock off a couple thou from the price."

Carfax is a good tool. The key being that it is one of many tools to help guide you during the purchase of a preowned vehicle. Good mechanical inspections and through test drives are invaluable. Problems arise when consumers relies on CarFax as the only tool for checking a used car. Knowing the limitations, used car dealers sometimes over emphasize its importance and credibility to their advantage.
Whether it sux or not, you BETTER have a clean Carfax when you go to sell your car. I don't care if it was burned/flooded/stripped and dipped in sh*t!!! If it doesn't come up clean, good luck selling it.
