Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Replace )' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace )' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I wonder if the DFI and DSG will be adapted versions used on current Audis.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

STUTTGART -- Four years after the launch of the current series, Porsche's iconic 911 will be upgraded for the summer of 2008.
The front end will get a larger air intake, and the rear lighting will be redesigned.
Major technological innovations to the 911 will include a conversion of the six-cylinder gasoline engine to direct injection and the addition of an optional dual-clutch transmission.
The transmission will allow shifts without interrupting driving power, even in manual mode.
Porsche's direct-injection engine, dubbed DFI, is projected to cut fuel consumption by about 10 percent.
The updated generation of the 911 also will come with improved performance. The Carrera S coupe, which starts at $82,600, will have at least 370 hp, up from 355 hp.
I doubt Porsche would consider a CVT for any of their cars (even the Cayenne).
The transmission mentioned in the article is a manual transmission without a clutch pedal that utilizes two clutch discs and two shafts.
IIRC, (and in incredibly simplistic terms) one disc continues to be engaged with the lower gear until (after?) the second clutch disc engages the next gear, so that there is no interruption in power delivery when shifting gears. Or something like that.
Something to look forward to. Might have to hold off getting a 997 till then. I wonder if the DFI and DSG will be adapted versions used on current Audis. I recall that Porsche had it's own dual clutch tranny design years ago.
Hmmm, I wonder if the 2008 update will end RMS issues once and for all.
well, the mark II will be better obviously, theres not many companies who spend a few years re-designing something and then come out with something that is materially worse...
you know, I didnlt see much real difference between my 996 and the new 997s when i drove it, certainly not enough to splash the cash, but I can see that it is better in most ways, just not enough of a difference for the upgrade right now...
I am moving to a cayman s; the difference I am equating it with is like moving from the original xbox to a wii, rather than an xbox to an xbox 360. not really a lot more power, just a different ownership experience.
i considered a 2001 TT or GT3 but I can;t really deal with a third car in a row with the 996 interior, it would just be too familiar - I need a change
But see, that is where you are wrong my friend! I do NOT see the interior in my GT3 and was actually a reason I considered the new one (GT3) or even a 997C2S but when you hear that flat6 sing as well as the feel of driving it, you don't even notice the interior. If anything, you appreciate it.
I know, but to be honest the good GT3's are just outside my comfort zone price wise as I just splashed on a new chevy avalanche (don't ask - its for business).
My wife also told me that if i'm gonna get a 2 seater I need to get it now before we have kids.
So 3-4 years from now I will almost certainly be in a 997 or 998 with room for kiddie seats!
I don't understand why everyone is making a big deal about this. You should have known there would be a restyle and improvement after 3 years. This is Porsche's normal product life cycle. Porsche is now on a stardard 12 year product life cycle for the 911. It is as follows:
1. 1st year, start with new chassis and new drivetrain.
2. 4th year, minor styling and improvements (minor refresh).
3. 7th year, major restyle (major refresh).
4. 10th year, minor restyle and improvements (minor refresh).
5. 13th year, start over again (complete change).
This is exactly what they are doing with the 996 and 997 and the schedule for the future 998 and 999. The 996 was introduced as a whole new model with new drivetrains as a 99'. In 02', it went through minor styling and imrpovements (refrech cycle). In 05' the 997 was introduces as a revised version of the 996 chassis with major styling changes and minor drivetrain changes. In 08' the 997 gets minor styling changes and improvements. In 11', the new model comes out.
