Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I changed a headlight bulb today, and noticed for the first time this tan gunky stuff spread around the inside metalwork in the nose of the car. Anyone know what it is or why it's there?

POST 2Original post

Junk inside your trunk! come on, someone would have said it!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bump. Seriously, anyone know what that stuff is? Leak sealant? Noise reducer? Cheap repair?

POST 4Original post

Did you car ever had any front end damage? my car doesn't look like that

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Supposedly not, but I'm now instantly skeptical.

POST 6Original post

yeah, but that doesn't look to me as the kind of thing that would be applied after an accident - it's everywhere - if there werer a spcific issue caused by an accident, then I'd expect it to be localized around the damaged area.

POST 7Original post

Unless the damage was to the entire front of the vehicle and not localized to the left or right fender. That gunk looks like dried up epoxy.

POST 8Original post

In the second picture it looks like a sprayed area especially in the corner. It reminds me of the old rusty jones rust preventer. Is it sticky?? or dry to the touch?

POST 9Original post

It is seam sealer. I have seen other cars that look just like yours and they did not have body work.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All, Thanks for the replies. My car looks to me like it has the original paint and seams and all. Given that other cars have this stuff -similarly applied- and that Loren over at Renntech pronounces it "factory normal" in his experience, I'm comfortable it isn't accident repair. Maybe Porsche puts it on to quiet the road noise? Or to keep water out? Special thanks to Tool Pants for the photo. CP
