Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

But I am curious to know which side you think is right, I know lots of you repair wheels all the time...

I'm really picky as well and had two or three wheels done on the 996 (lightweight 5 spokes) and they run perfectly even at Road Atlanta DE's.

I'm going to do both, buy a new set (ouch) and repair the old one as a spare of sorts.

I think you'd be better off with 2 sets or sell your old set since you'll track.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a set of 18x10 rear 5 spoke 996 wheels that are - indeed - bent a little. Nothing crazy, it's not even visible unless you spin them on a balancing machine with a guide next to the inner lip, but not totally fixeable just with good balancing either. Most people could live with it but I HATE the smallest of vibrations.
There is a local wheel place that tells me they can fix them for $65 each, they heat them and use a hydraulic press to restore true roundness... They do it all the time, mostly for dealers, and on those exact wheels as well...
On the flip side, wheel enhancement tells me those are BBS made wheels and are heat treated, so they do not condone repairing them because reheating them destroys the original treatment. That said, they sell the new ones, $700 a pop, so neither side can be totally innocent since they are both selling me a solution..

Well, I know wheel enhancement, and I know they have an excellent reputation.
All they do is repair and re-sale wheels, so I'd bet they know their stuff.
I'd go with their take on the BBS.
Greg,
I have had multiple alloy wheels (about 9-10) straightened and refinished on all my cars with no problems. I'm really picky as well and had two or three wheels done on the 996 (lightweight 5 spokes) and they run perfectly even at Road Atlanta DE's. From my perspective, the only problem that I've had has been a little powdercoat chipping on a BMW wheel which was fixed at no cost. I used a place called Wheel Wizard
http://www.wheelwizard.com
and they can even fix gashes/scrapes etc by brazing in a little more metal.
In each case, it was about $180 per wheel to straighten and refinish. Personally, I'd get them straightened and refinished and save the extra $1K over the new set. I honestly don't think that you need two sets, just buying tires for the second set of wheels would be another $8-900 not to mention that you'd have to find storage for the second set of wheels. Besides, that next killer pothole is probably lurking right around the corner...
Good Luck!
