Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'either battery or alternater' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'either battery or alternater' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fuse box' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Try changing the battery which is pretty easy and can be done without towing the car.

I did catch them in the process, and they will be replacing an item.

He tells me to go to his house and I can use his 996 turbo!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After having a really bad day at work. I leave thinking I will escape by jumping into my car and drive off with a smile on my face. Nope not today. I get in, the car starts up runs for few seconds then dies. Hmmmmm, I turn it over again she almost starts but doesn't. I try again and she turns over but will not fire up. Bummer. So I had to have her towed.
I am thinking it might be the fuel pump. Anyone have an idea to how much a new pump is and how long it will take to install?
On the bright side, after telling my tale of woe to a friend who is out of town. He tells me to go to his house and I can use his 996 turbo! Now that is a friend!
I read somewhere on rennlist a couple of days ago about a altenator..and the symptoms sounded the same....
It is good to have friends like that...just remember how are you ever being able to go back to your own P???
Fuel pump are very reliable and rarely fails.
I'd suspect either battery or alternater. Try changing the battery which is pretty easy and can be done without towing the car. If not, have the car towed to dealer for diagnosis. If the battery is 5-6 yrs old, it's definitely due. If the battery trick works, look at the voltage gauge on dash to see if you have at least 13v. if not, your alternator is bad and your new battery will be drained in a matter of days (if not hours).
The car turns over just will not fire. The battery seemed to have no problem turning the starter. I had to have the car towed. no way I was going to leave in that lot overnight. We will see was the dealer says sometime today.
BTW, the driving the Turbo is so nice! Someday I'll have to upgrade to one of those!
Well after a nightmare week of dealing with a dealership who trashed my car. I did catch them in the process, and they will be replacing an item. But that is another story. The problem seems to have been a sucking jet pump.
part number 996.620.113.00 what ever that is.
It is so nice to have my car, I missed it big time.
