I definitely have used the rear wiper: tested it once after I bought the car.

I love the clean lines of our cars, but for some reason I always thought the rear wiper looked cool.

What I like about the story is the remark on the Italians that they saw no use for a rear wiper; or a rear view mirror!!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My car has no rear wiper. I've driven it in rain and light snow and was always able to see out the rear window no problem. Does anyone think that a rear wiper is useful? BTW the rear wiper on my MB wagon is quite useful.
According to Pinky, a rear wiper was chosen from Bosch, then hung from strings in an open bay, and the rest of the car was designed around the rear wiper. Thus, the rear wiper is the only reason the 996 exists, as there is no corresponding part or function on the Boxster.
I have a bridge for sale, just east of Manhattan in NY too.
I definitely have used the rear wiper: tested it once after I bought the car.
However I can imagine it being useful under one condition: car is parked outside, overnight a heavy dew condensed all over the car, need to wipe the rear window before backing up.
(but yeah, like you on the MB, the rear wiper on my Vanagon is very useful).
The rear wiper is an abomination and completely ruins the side view of the 996.
But I don't feel strongly one way or t'other.
This made me feel uncomfortable. But not triggered.
Pinky and I were doing body shots. Regrettably, we were doing the off of Cuda, but thankfully he was fully clothed, wrapped in a Tyvek body bag (funny misunderstanding!) and a straitjacket (no misunderstanding at all). True story. For real. Literally.
Anyway, Pinky confessed that he wanted the rear wipers ONLY on Targas to make them even heavier, but it didn't happen the way he hoped. Then he decided to show everyone the reason people call him Pinky.
We all got the hell out of there. Except Cuda, poor guy. I was running, but when I looked back, it was like the scene in The Fly when Brundlefly accidentally gets created...but instead of a half-man, half-fly, imagine an angry burrito in a straitjacket...on a Brazzers casting couch. *shudder*
That Pinky, he's a sick man. Hung like an albino hippo, but sick.
Sadly, like so many other options on the Porsche car purchase it's coded as something like: 'rear wiper delete'. So, unless you go through the order book with a fine tooth comb, you're getting all the spit you don't want. Like the damn sunroof, and headlamp washers, and the CD caddy. ugh...
Put me down as thinking the rear wiper on my 996 Turbo is useful.
I drive my car in all kinds of weather and the rear wiper comes in handy when the rear window is wet from dew/fog/drizzle, rain, or there's snow on it I like the fact with a press of a button I can have the rear window cleared and can see out the rear window better and thus have less anxiety in having to back the car out of a parking space.
Sure, once I get moving and provided I don't stop the car or even slow down much the rear window stays pretty clear but non-stop driving is not always possible.
Comes standard on Australian delivered RoW cars.
I do enjoy pressing the button and seeing it wipe the rear screen
not that I drive in the rain that often though.
I must be odd. I love the clean lines of our cars, but for some reason I always thought the rear wiper looked cool. Was glad when I found mine and it had it. After 5 years of ownership I can think of only two times when I used it (once when I got caught in a blizzard). But I still like it!
I agree I love the look with a rear wiper. Guess I'm in the minority too. For me I think it harkens back to the original 930 in the mid 70's with the rear wiper mounted on the spoiler.
I've seen this posted in another thread, I believe, but for the rear-wiper-naysayers, what about Tradition, Heritage, and heriditary bloodlines that 911 enthusiasts gush over?

What I like about the story is the remark on the Italians that they saw no use for a rear wiper; or a rear view mirror!! Now that's the spirit!!
There you go, here's the clip I was thinking about!!!!!
