Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I installed an aftermarket radio in my car so now when I activate my alarm, I get a beep from the horn because it is sensing that there is no factory radio. It has been working fine for about a year but when I activate the alarm now, the LED on top of the dash and the LED for the door locks blink at the same time for about 10 seconds. After that, just the light on top of the dash will blink and the alarm will go off about 15 minutes after that. Has anyone ever had this problem? This is a 1999 996 C2.

POST 2Original post

Yes...simple fix...there is a wire that connects to the chassis of the factory head unit....remove this and your problem is gone. Its on the left side of the head unit chassis and its blue and some other color....I accidentaly reconnected my wire while I was in there....then my car alarm kept going off...removed the wire from the spade connector and bam...problems gone...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I didn't mean that this has been happening for a year, it just started recently. I had the radio installed a year ago. It was fine with the beep - it let me know that the alarm was on. Did your LED's blink at the same time also?

POST 4Original post

nope no flashing blinks...just the constant false alarms...after about 5-10 minutes.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Loren says it is blue and brown. Does it connect to the left rear of the radio? I have an alpine installed and there is nothing connected to the chassis.

POST 6Original post

its actually where the OLD chassis would have been, its a spade plug.

POST 7Original post

On a CDR-220 the alarm wire is in the main connector. Cut and tape the Brown wire with a Blue stripe. Please also be aware that you may have more than one alarm fault. Fix this one and you should find out if there is still another.
