Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Checking the pulleys, that will have to wait, but shouldn't that be RPM based, not speed based?

It's going to be a few days before I have time to put the car in the air and check wheel bearings, but in the mean time, every car has different common failure modes, so I thought I would ask - the noise is present at any speed from about 55-68mph, but it is most noticeable by far between 56-59mph.

Strangely, replacing the motor mounts solved this.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

It's going to be a few days before I have time to put the car in the air and check wheel bearings, but in the mean time, every car has different common failure modes, so I thought I would ask - the noise is present at any speed from about 55-68mph, but it is most noticeable by far between 56-59mph. It definitely is coming from the right half of the rear, and it goes away if you either let you foot off or accelerate. It is its loudest under slight acceleration, but close to its loudest when cruising.
The symptoms match, but unless I'm wrong about how the car is oriented, the source location doesn't. Is the diff off center in these? Is it a common failure point? Car is a 6 speed with 106k miles.
right half of the rear= Right rear carrier bearing ?
Or gearbox area ? I'm assuming the former, Does it manifest/deminish itself on corners ? I don't want to say these are common failures, but not unknown. There are videos on the replacement process if so inclined.
Interesting on the pulley. I got impatient last night and put it in the air. Nothing obviously wrong with the wheel bearing, both sides feel pretty much the same, no play and a decent but not as hard-as-I-can turn of the wheel sends it 2-2.5 revolutions, no unusual noise.

There sure seem to be a lot of sealed bearings in hard to service areas in these. I feel like any engineer should have known that's a recipe for disaster.
You'd be surprised how many 'engineering' decisions are made by project managers and/or marketing people. Engineers spend years training and gaining experience, then have to present their work to non qualified senior staff who 'review' it based off unrealistic timelines, over constrained budgets and the lens of the warranty period (when the company is responsible for fixing it).
Just look at Boeing. No way engineers (who are a very conservative bunch, admittedly sometimes too conservative) would allow the 737-MAX debacle to happen.
Its all about stock holder 'value' now...
