Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If you still trust the guy, tell him to get the fluid change kit and give the trans the standard fluid change service.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Long time reader first time poster. Have a 2002 55k miles, clean car in nice shape. I wanted to get IMS done so dropped it off at local indy that specializes in P-Cars. On the new Tip's the motor must come out to do the IMS. But decided to go ahead anyway and get it done as I wanted to keep the car for awhile. Figured to do RMS and AOS as well. Indy started pulling everything apart and all was going okay until they informed me yesterday that the trans has a leak somewhere. They did not get trans off the motor yet so he didnt have any details as to where from or how bad. From all my reading I thought the later 2002+ Tips were solid transmissions, and did not see this one coming. He also said Porsche make parts difficult to come by for these transmissions. So I should know more information monday. Just wondering what options I have? Is there anyone who sells rebuilds with warranty? I do not even want to know what the dealer will tell me....lol I am still crossing my fingers the leak is something we can remediate. I hate the thought of reinstalling a leaking trans after all this work. Car drives and shifts perfect thus far.
Will post up once I know more, but thanks in advance for any information or advice.
Who says you need a rebuild just because of a leak...a leak that wasn't even showing on your garage floor? There should be no problem getting parts for the trans. If the trans was running fine before this, it is probably just a seal or gasket. If you still trust the guy, tell him to get the fluid change kit and give the trans the standard fluid change service. That will replace the gasket and seals and add just a relatively few buck to the service considering all the other stuff you are having done. Make your own calls to indie parts like Pelican and Warehouse 33, and Porsche Dealer parts sources and get some facts on the availability and costs on the trans kits.
Personally, based on what you said, I'm getting nervous about him doing the other work as well as the trans.
Sorry if I made it sound like they were steering me in any direction. That is certainly not the case. He just said that Porsche makes the OEM parts hard to come by for the Tip trans. They certainty did not push me in the direction of a rebuild, or anything like that. They just gave me an FYI on the discovery. This weekend I have been doing my homework for what indie parts stores have available as well for the Tip S. I just wanted to know what all my options are... if it turns out to be something bad. And places to get parts for it. There is pretty limited info out there on them. Once trans is off the motor and we know where the leak is that should help dictate what fix we pursue.
Thanks for the feedback!
If you have a 2002 your tip is a Mercedes 722.6. This is really common transmission and any good trans shop will know how to work on them. I just had mine rebuilt. It is really amazing to have a like new tranny in my car and she drives and shift so smooth like my 722.9 in my Mercedes. The guy mentioned that the front seal on the front of the tip that encases the front of the tranny goes bad all the time and those seals are not available from Porsche. He knows of only one source in the country that has that seal. Good luck.
