Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey all, i am sending my car to Puerto Rico in December due to a job opportunity there and we have always kind of wanted to move back there due to many reasons including family ( i am originally from PR). It takes 10 days to ship the vehicle and I am concerned that the shipping company might put miles on it or misstreat it... Like I am kind of worried a kid works there and would take it for a spin and just screw something up and my worst nightmare would be receiving the car with a bad engine... I know that the shipping company is responsible for it in case of an accident but i am not sure of engine damage, etc.... Anyways, this might sound stupid but is there be anything I can do to the Throttle body maybe to avoid it fully opening? or maybe something else that I can do to avoid someone taking this car to its limit? My car is a 99 C2... thank you

POST 2Original post

This company claims to give you 4 different tunes including a "Valet mode"... https://www.goapr.com/products/ecu_u...carrera34.html I have no experience with them, but it might be worth a look.

POST 3Original post

Document the mileage when you drop it off too.

POST 4Original post

Documenting miles is my only suggestion. We spent a week in Rincon last year. Nice people and beautiful island. Wish i knew how to surf! We will be back again!

POST 5Original post

zip tie a hockey puck to the bottom of the gas pedal!

POST 6Original post

Also, talk to the shipping company as I did this many moons ago, wanted them to cover my vehicle once it got there, I included an all weather cover in the trunk. The car will be sitting outside in what looks like an impound lot. Any one that you trust to pick the car for you? Or to check it out? Dude, the mountain roads ahead of you on your weekend trip to Cayey to eat lechon are awesome. Buena suerte panin!

POST 7Original post

Shipping your car comes in essentially three flavors: roll on/roll off, container, and exclusive container, the last having the lowest risk of damage and no driving of your car, but the most expensive. I've always used RO/RO service in shipping my own stuff back and forth to Europe and never had a problem (except an occasional dead battery). I wouldn't worry much about anyone driving your car at the port, they have lots of cars to unload & no time or opportunity for joyriding. Most forwarders offer pretty reasonable shipping insurance. Good luck whatever you decide.

A good friend of mine lives in PR....if you ever go to meetups there, he will be there.....he lives in Bayamon....he and his father own several Porsches

POST 9Original post

Its basically about 2K to ship a smaller container anywhere by sea.. The 20 foot ones are the most economical, Have a guy with a welder weld tie downs in for ya and use the big 12K straps. RO-RO also means they can&will leave the car sit and idle till it runs out of gas for some shippers. They'll be assuming they can just slosh some fuel in at the other end.. (And it wont be 92 octane.. ) If you do a ro-ro I do recomend using body shop film on the car.

POST 10Original post

Where on the island will you be living? We visit the west coast a couple of times a year.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone for all your recommendations!, I will be living on the north of the island, about 30 minutes from San Juan.. I am already scheduled for my car to be transported there, it will run about $1600 so its not that bad. I have added some extra insurance just in case.
