I would leave them in place and follow the jb weld suggestions, unless you feel it is time to replace some mounting hardware with new stainless steel items because you could be looking a destroying some rusty nuts and bolts at the mounting points and exhaust clamps.

Suggestion
A decent set of used mufflers isn't that expensive, I'd say put minimal effort into repair (some JB weld maybe) and just keep driving until they fail, then buy a clean used set.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This muffler and its buddy work fine, but dont look too good. Is this just cosmetic, or will these soon need replacing? I do drive on salty roads (in case that isnt obvious). Anything I can do to preserve them?

. Cleaned it with a stiff wire brush first, mixed pressed it in and formed it smooth with a dampened finger. Still looks like the day I did. My original goal was just to milk a little extra time out of it, but now I'm curious how long it will hold up.

The less things I need to move around the better it is for me, well sometimes. Good luck though.
The mufflers don't have to come off to change the plugs. Makes it easier when they are off but it is not a must. I would leave them alone, maybe push some JB weld into the cracks but the rust will push it apart anyways but it might slow down the corrosion a bit.
Mine did the same thing but were a little further along. I talked to a few muffler shops and sent pictures and they all said they couldn't do anything. I tried welding them myself and it was just too thin/brittle. I wanted to do the Fister upgrade, and I wasn't keen on investing in them when they were on their way out, so I opted to pay the extra money and have Fister provide the mufflers + do the mod. Glad I did because the ones I received look new compared to my old ones. A decent set of used mufflers isn't that expensive, I'd say put minimal effort into repair (some JB weld maybe) and just keep driving until they fail, then buy a clean used set.
