Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Fill with castor oil' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill with castor oil' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suggestion
Thats one of those old engine where you would run around with a squirt oil bottle and squirt oil on things before cranking it !!!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As seen in the Southern Museum of Flight in Birmingham today. Pretty cool, this thing had an electric motor that you would flick a switch on and it would rotate slowly.
They are using the wrong oil!
The external push rods are cool. Folks were pretty gutsy to fly in a plane powered by an engine like that. On the other hand this was state of the art back then.
Yup. A few year back I got to watch them fire one of these engines at Owl's Head in Maine. They have it mounted on a trailer. The start procedure is indeed something to see. Once running the air filled with castor oil.
If you look closer that motor does not have exposed pushrods, it has push-rod tubes like a air cooled bug..
they have the rocker covers off to show the internals..
But yea,, it was not long before this engine that hand oiling was the name of the game..
The skill to rebuild one of these if pretty epic, I've helped on a 6Cyl,, cant imagine a 32 cylinder..
The funny thing is how really primitive the parts are,, The guy I worked on it with was in his 80's
over 20 years ago. He had worked in the factories during WW2, the crank plates were cut with a saw,
the crank pin holes were drilled on a press , you could see the hand file marks on some of the pieces
where they cleaned up the tool scarf.
These engines made full power at under 2500 rpms,, many were at peak by 1700..
They were running at what the aircraft termed "peak power" which meant they were
running at higher pressure levels than many race cars..
Elegant to play with when apart.. especially when you consider there were no computers,,
and teh insides required a lot of geometry to sort out.
