If so, just go to one of the leather suppliers and order a swath/hide of the leather in your color, I replaced all my leatherette on the panels on sides, cover lid and rear console with real leather, Quite easy with 3M 77 glue and a sharp knife..

What I have is the leatherette, but I'm looking to replace with leather as long as I am replacing it (it's worn badly and looks beat).

I wonder in what way the lids differ and if I need to be worried about the difference, since 99% of used lids are advertised with the wrong part number (they list the part number of the hinge because they don't know what they're looking at).

I might just buy leather to recover the front driver's seat (the passenger was done a year ago) and use the remainder to have the same upholsterer redo the glovebox, now that I know it is easy and thus likely cheap to do.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The parts catalog has two center console lid part numbers. One is for the IXMZ option code, which I would assume means that lid being in leather (since it says IXMZ means rear section of center console in leather), but both part numbers say they are leather (and strangely there is no part number for the standard vinyl). Anybody know what part the IXMZ was talking about, so I know if the parts swap nicely?

I have replaced the front door panels and Instrument lid binnacle with Ebay auction items covered in factory leather also. (that might be a cheaper solution for you)
Makes car feel nicer and smell better inside. For about $ 450.00 I've redone all surfaces w exception of main dashboard and rear seat side panels.

You are right about what I'm looking to do, but I'm trying to figure out what used part works and does what I want. I'm looking for a leather covered console lid, but I'm not sure if that means I have to get the part number for the IXMZ option pack or since the other lid also says leather if that one works too.
What color is your interior ? I have a option guide but I don't see that code in it. XME usually means Rear Console painted in Exterior color, I don't see IXMZ
If you have a picture of the lid , the real leather doesn't sow much grain where as Leatherette shows stamped grain pattern.
IMXZ is the code I am talking about. Mine is Metropole blue. I'm trying to figure out if I am looking for 996 552 155 03 G11 or 996 552 965 00 G11.
What I have is the leatherette, but I'm looking to replace with leather as long as I am replacing it (it's worn badly and looks beat).
The IXMZ option was for 2001 and up and the other part numbers are for 1998-2000. From what I have seen, the black leather in my 1999 is not the same shade as in later years.
Interesting. On the Black that makes sense, since early years "Black" was A11 and later years black is VRK" but with the blue they are both G11. I wonder in what way the lids differ and if I need to be worried about the difference, since 99% of used lids are advertised with the wrong part number (they list the part number of the hinge because they don't know what they're looking at).
Sorry for the mis type on code ealier , I was moving from Option Code Order book to this page.
There is a Metropol Blue one for sale on flea Bay in leather, it's a 02 version 996-552-155-02 G11 150.00
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911...EAAOSwpj9bdKfz
the seller 911_Doctor is usually high and won't negotiate ;(
I don't know what the differences would be between versions.
(since it says IXMZ means rear section of center console in leather) I'd think that relates to plastic console is leather covered, Lid wouldn't have option code just part number and color code on end
That one is black. There is one on ebay, but the seller wants $200. I might just buy leather to recover the front driver's seat (the passenger was done a year ago) and use the remainder to have the same upholsterer redo the glovebox, now that I know it is easy and thus likely cheap to do.
Sorry, I was looking at leatherette one prior, that and work items also
Hardest part on recovering it is getting the front rounded edge right w/o wrinkles. Take your time and let contact glue setup and work the edge with a spoon or something similar.
If your having seat done, get the lid done at same time unless you doing seat yourself.
