Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I did that job recently....."while you are there"......I would replace the thermostat too....

Now I am just about to change my water pump and flush most of the system.

Amazing what you'll do to save $550 in labor cost to replace WP.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Now I am just about to change my water pump and flush most of the system. I am thinking when I get to that point, I will drain from the bottom, remove the hose on water pump and thermostat and put about 10PSI of air into the system through the coolant box. I will be cutting a slit in a piece of rubber to put the air hose through. Nothing fancier that that. From what I read, it will get only leave about a 1/12 of the old coolant in the system. I am okay with that if correct. This seem right.
Do I need to remove the hose off the thermostat or is the water pump enough? I'd rather not pull off any hoses I don't need to. I did the water pump in my Boxster and only recall one hose to pull off but I only did a partial flush. With air in the system, do I need to level the car to get the most of the coolant out or will the air take care of that. FWIW, this seems very similar to getting the water out of the lines in a pool before winter storage.
Now when I added the coolant on the boxster, I remember going through this routine of revving the motor for certain amount of times. I don't have my Bentley manual anymore so I don't have a guide. Anyone recommend how I should do this or what is a trust worthy source. Now I only do this stuff to save a buck, not out of enjoyment so unfortunately I need specifics. Like when it says to rev motor to 5000 RPM's, do I just tap 5000 RPM's or hold it at 5k there for 5 minutes.
Okay, I went out and got all the tools I needed that I didn't have : hose removing tool, swivel for 1/4 sockets, extra long wrenches. I think I am ready to roll.
Amazing what you'll do to save $550 in labor cost to replace WP. Hopefully nothing breaks and cost me $1k (or more) to fix. Been there, done that.
Anyone know the old fashion way to work the bubbles out? I would rather not go out and buy any more stuff to put the coolant in. As mentioned, I did in Boxster with no problems but I lost those instructions.
I'll leave the thermostat for the next guy.
I used this technique twice now (without issue)...

Perfect. Thanks.
Hold on a second. Now this is quite a conundrum. Everything I read says not to let the car idle from cold and the instructions say to let the car idle. So it's fine to keep my foot on the loud pedal for 10 minutes when it's cold while not moving. Then once the radiators turn on, rev to 5000 RPM's every 30 seconds. Boy I hope Wayne is right.
I just revved it to 2K a couple of times until the tank s coolant stablizes, then topped it off and drove slowly down hill with a gallon on me to get all the air out. Purge valve open of course.
I didn't do a full flush though (I had new coolant already in the car when I did my pump and kept drain level to a minimum).
