One of their rules is a brake flush within 6 months, so I figure I might as well go ahead and use some high temperature brake fluid.

I only use SRF, ever since that 'moment going downhill into the boot at WGI that was only shared with my suit and the dry cleaner'.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Finally pulling the trigger on a track day with the local Ferrari club. One of their rules is a brake flush within 6 months, so I figure I might as well go ahead and use some high temperature brake fluid. I'm leaning towards the Motul. What say you? How many bottles will I need for a complete flush?

POST 2Original post

That's hillarious considering they don't even push their cars like the P-Car crowd does. I flushed and filled mine with the Super Blue ATE (about $9.95). You can grab it out ar OG Racing near Dulles. Do you have a power bleeder? I only needed 1 can. Filled it up, pumped up the PSI, then bled both bleed valves on all four calipers (RR, LR, FR, FL). Nice thing is on the first flush, you know when it has reached that caliper when you see blue fluid coming through.

POST 3Original post

1 Liter should be good. Motul, ATE, there are lots of good choices...

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. I hope to get some point-bys from the prancing horse crowd. I don't have a bleeder at all so my local dealer will do it along with my 45K service (I know, I know, a ripoff). So one liter will do a complete flush huh? Would Castrol SRF be overkill? Dell, how do you know OG? I going there on Friday to get a helmet.

POST 5Original post

What is the date of the Ferrari event and which track?

POST 6Original post

Grew up in the area (NOVA) and have bought many things from them over the years. Besides, when I moved away, I actually saved money since they offer FREE shipping on orders over $100. Good luck spending less than $100 Great bunch of guys there that really strive to help.

POST 7Original post

Not to speak for Dell, but I know OG Racing pretty well. They are a bunch of great guys that you can trust. The will make sure the helmet fits you properly and wont just try to up sell you. I am not affiliated with OG except for the fact that I am on the Potomac PCA Autocross Committe and OG Racing has provided all of the loaner helmets for the Potomac PCA autocross events. If your event is this weekend I would recommend getting the helmet before Friday, this way you can wear it around the house for a little bit and break it in some...it will also give you a chance to get used to it rather than just putting it on for the first time at the event. Also, the ATE Blue is nice; however, it can stain your tank and lines. ATE has a Gold that you can also use. The Ferrari Club of Washington puts on some nice events, I did one last year. Have fun! Just my $0.02.

POST 8Original post

1 liter is good for a full bleed. Note that with ATE it is one can and with Motul 600 it is two bottles. Motul 600 has a higher boiling temp, but ATE will hold up better, if you go a while between bleeds. Either will work fine.

POST 9Original post

When it comes to your brakes on track, there is no such thing as overkill. I only use SRF, ever since that 'moment going downhill into the boot at WGI that was only shared with my suit and the dry cleaner'. PCA DE rules are similar, flush every 6 months and a bleed prior to the event. Also, you want at least 50% pad thickness, new pads are preferred.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am going on the 28th, but I think it starts on the 27th. It's on the Shenandoah circuit at Summit Point.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the advice guys. So would it be 1 or 2 bottles of SRF then?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's the following Friday so I will have a week to break it in. Would it be weird if I drove around DC with the top down and my helmet on?

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought one of the benefits of SRF is you don't have to flush it as often. Do you still have to do the bleed every 6 months then?

POST 14Original post

I was told by my dealer that for a complete flush, you need 2 cans of ATE superblue???

POST 15Original post

If you don't do the ABS you can get away with 1 can. If you can activate the ABS valves you willl neeed more.

POST 16Original post

And you always end up needing a little bit more trying to successfully bleed the clutch slave cylinder.

POST 17Original post

The major advantage/benefit of SRF is the higher wet boiling point. However, it is still brake fluid and will absorb moisture just sitting in your car's plumbing, hence the 6 month rule should still apply. You also should be able to not have to bleed between runs/days of a DE with SRF.

POST 18Original post

How easy is it to use one of theose power bleeders? I have never used one... Maybe i should invest?
